Crazy Trade Rumors

Yesterday marked the final deadline for NBA roster moves. Leading up to it, the general vibe was that things would stay pretty quiet and we wouldn't see much action.

😵 😵

While there was a total frenzy resulting in 29 players being moved, I wouldn't go so far as to say it fundamentally reshaped the landscape of the league.

Here is the dry breakdown:

Miami Heat acquires Steve Smith from Charlotte Hornets for Malik Allen and cash.

Golden State Warriors acquires Nikoloz Tskitishvili and Rodney White from Denver Nuggets for Eduardo Najera, Luis Flores and a future first-round pick.

Boston Celtics acquires Antoine Walker from Atlanta Hawks for Gary Payton, Tim Gugliotta and Michael Stewart and a 2005 or future first-round pick.

Cleveland Cavaliers acquires Jiri Welsch from Boston Celtics for a first-round draft pick in 2007.

Dallas Mavericks acquires Tim Duncan from Dallas Mavericks for Alan Henderson and Calvin Booth.

Golden State Warriors acquires Baron Davis from New Orleans Hornets for Speedy Claxton and Dale Davis.

Houston Rockets acquires Mike James and Zendon Hamilton from Milwaukee Bucks for Reece Gaines and second-round picks in 2006 and 2007.

New York Knicks acquires Maurice Taylor from Houston Rockets for Moochie Norris, Vin Baker and a second-round pick in 2006.

Philadelphia 76ers acquires Rodney Rogers and Jamal Mashburn from New Orleans Hornets for Glenn Robinson.

San Antonio Spurs acquires Nazr Mohammed and Jamison Brewer from New York City for Malik Rose and conditional first-round picks in 2005 and 2006.

To sum it all up: Baron Davis headed to the Golden State Warriors, the Philadelphia 76ers gave Chris Webber some help by adding Rodney Rogers, the Boston Celtics brought back Antoine Walker, Steve Smith might just find a great place to finish his career, San Antonio Spurs picked up a reliable backup center, and Isiah Thomas managed to make the already messy situation in New York City even worse by bringing in two undersized forwards with massive contracts.

Man, this... Dallas Mavericks thing... I was just arguing with myself. 😁

Looking at some of these trades, you really have to wonder how anyone actually becomes an NBA General Manager. Like, what kind of genius looks at Adonal Foyle and decides he's worth a $40 million contract?

Seriously, does anyone in Dallas have Mark Cuban's email? How can he just sit there and watch while Don Nelson brings in Tim Duncan? Mark, give us a sign.

Tim Duncan is from... Milwaukee Bucks He landed in Dallas. Honestly, this could be a really solid move. Sure, he’s taking on way too much money—around $16 million—but he could serve as a very reliable backup for Dirk Nowitzki.

Danny Ainge screwed up big time trading Antoine Walker two years ago, but bringing him back is easily his smartest move yet.

Why swap Gary Payton for Antoine Walker? Because Walker is just the better player. Besides, Payton probably won't even stick in Atlanta—he’ll likely get waived and head back to the Boston Celtics, giving them a lineup featuring Payton, Antoine Walker, and Paul Pierce.

You can already see the progress in Boston with Antoine Walker on board. They just grabbed two straight road wins, including last night's victory over the Phoenix Suns where they dropped 120 points—something they haven't done once this season. Antoine Walker personally put up 33 points, 13 rebounds, and 6 assists.

As for Chris Mullin deciding to hand Adonal Foyle $40 million, I guess the guy finally made a decent move by landing Baron Davis for basically nothing.

Caught the Golden State Warriors vs. Detroit Pistons game last night; the Pistons barely scraped by. It's obvious that once Baron Davis is fully healthy, he's going to be massive for the Golden State Warriors. It's just a shame Mullin blew $40 million on Adonal Foyle last summer and another $38 million on Derek Fisher when that cash could've gone toward an actual quality player.

Regarding Tim Duncan, Mark Cuban was the one who brought him in, not Don Nelson. It's hard to imagine Tim Duncan getting much playing time. That said, he could be a solid addition for the Dallas Mavericks since he can consistently drop ten points and ten boards any given night.

I honestly find myself wondering why Mark Cuban is still keeping Don Nelson on the Dallas Mavericks bench... with a coach like that, they're never going to win it all... nowadays, everyone seems to be moving toward younger coaches or fresh faces who actually deliver results...

Adonal Foyle is a solid center... he doesn't exactly bring much to the table offensively—not really a scoring threat by any means—but if you can get him around 30 minutes on the floor, he'll grab 15 rebounds easily and just rack up a ton of fouls...
If there was actually any decent time left on the clock in basketball, he’d probably end up being used just like in handball—strictly for defense...😁

Alonzo Mourning signed with the Miami Heat last night. Their frontcourt is looking scary now.

The Atlanta Hawks cut Gary Payton. He might head back to the Boston Celtics, or he could take an offer from the Phoenix Suns, Denver Nuggets, or Sacramento Kings.
