I'm on the same page as Megan Rodriguez44 and those two guys she quoted 😁

Let me remind you all about a very similar band that was around 15-20 years ago and actually popped up on this forum recently

I want to ask the Lollobrigide fans: what’s the actual fundamental difference between these two bands? Because I think we can all agree that D'BOys are a much bigger pile of garbage.

As someone who’s pretty much a huge fan of L., I feel like I should weigh in on the comparison between Lollobrigida and D'Boys. To me, the real distinction is that Lollobrigida leans into that intentional trashy aesthetic, whereas D'Boys just seems... accidental? Of course, that’s all just semantics and doesn't really change the bottom line—which is whether a pop song actually works or not. And honestly, I don't think D'Boys ever quite mastered the art of songwriting. They just didn't have that knack, unlike bands like Videosex, Denis & Denis, or even the most hated band on the forum. But hey, I guess there's no accounting for taste! 🙂

Man, those are some top-tier names for an indie rock outfit...😁

Look, I'll admit I'm clueless—but which one are we talking about? Lollobrigide? lol

Yeah, those were the ones I had in mind.

Honestly though, that’s all just a bunch of nonsense that doesn't really matter—at the end of the day, the only thing that counts is whether a pop song actually hits or not. And let's be real, the D'Boys couldn't write a decent hook if their lives depended on it. They definitely don't have the songwriting chops of bands like Videosex, Denis & Denis, or even the most hated band on the forum. But hey, whatever, I guess it's all subjective. 🙂

Personally, I think Jugoslovenka is a killer pop track, and honestly, the music video is a total low-budget masterpiece. D'Boys are pure camp, while Lollobrigida is straight-up trash. If you want my two cents, Laki Pingvini are better than both of them combined. For me, L. is fine enough to spin in a club, but they really struggle when it comes to actual songwriting. Even the Libertines, for example, seem to be lacking when it comes to solid tracks.

Gosh, I feel like the Penguins only have one decent track—"My Girl." Everything else just feels a bit silly to me now. I mean, maybe "Maybe, Maybe" was a dance floor staple back in the day, but looking back from where I am now, it honestly seems kind of ridiculous...
As for terms like camp, trash, or pulp, I think it’s all just part of the rock and roll spirit. To me, trash is basically 👍

"Schizic" is their only truly cool moment.

That doesn't stop Dragaš from being a huge fan of both groups, though. 😁
I can't help but wonder what specifically draws him to Lollobrigide in the first place.

🤔 😬

Look, I see everyone here tends to jump down the throats of critics, so I’m going to step in and defend the guy mentioned above—not because I want to debate his character, but strictly based on his work.
Honestly, when I read a review by Dragaš, I can get a pretty accurate sense of whether an album will actually click with me or what the general vibe sounds like (which is exactly what reviews are for, right?). Even if I’ve never heard of the band before, his writing helps me discover musicians I genuinely end up loving. It’s a far cry from certain other critics out there who write pieces that leave you wondering if they even bothered to press play on the album in the first place.
The fact that he doesn't immediately tear everything down—even things that might not be perfect—is probably because he chooses to give more credit to rising local talents who aren't just playing cheesy pop or radio filler. And honestly? I’m all for that.
Regarding the LP - schizo 👍

rustyangler68 said:I suppose the reason he isn't completely cutting out certain things—even if they aren't exactly top-tier right now—is probably because he wants to give more credit to rising American artists who aren't just playing cheesy pop or bubblegum hits, and I actually think that's a great move!

Honestly, bad pop is just as bad as bad rock. If anyone disagrees with that, I think they might have some serious issues to work through.

Fair enough. I'll try to keep that in mind for the next time I find myself stuck at some random wedding, being tapped on the shoulder by some uncle shouting, "Come on, kid, get up and join the conga line!" while I'm just sitting there praying I don't trip over my own feet. Perspective is everything, I guess.

What is even the point of this post? Is this just an attempt to tear down Dragaš or Lollobridgide? Or are we witnessing a typical, bitter outburst of irrational hatred? If you have such strong opinions, why don't you write your critiques in the newspapers or go ahead and start your own indie rock band instead?

Just remember that feeling next time someone taps you on the shoulder and tries to drag you onto the dance floor to some ridiculous oldie. 🙂

Perspective is everything.

Bad rock music is actually much worse than those obnoxious party-goers, mostly because I can at least distance myself from the latter by knowing "it has nothing to do with me." On the other hand, people who listen to terrible rock assume that just because they see Converse on my feet, I must have something in common with them and their garbage taste in music... which makes me want to reach for a firearm. 😠

Perspective is everything, indeed. 😁

hm. but what if Certain Someone actually gets goosebumps and just freezes up in pure terror the second those first few chords hit? Like, imagine them being paralyzed by fear while reliving some traumatic childhood incident involving a sequence of events like:
- a pony (part 1)
- a whip (repressed memory, unknown number of times)
- some heavy-duty pitchforks (part 3).

And all because they didn't feed him, for crying out loud!
So what then, huh? Huh?!!!

So I just got back from seeing them at Madison Square Garden. Honestly? It was nothing but pure, unadulterated pretension and people trying way too hard to look cool. Don't get me wrong, I love my fans, but man, let’s be real here. They aren't edgy, they aren't actually good musicians, and they sure as hell aren't original.
