Skin reactions to deodorants and similar products

I picked up the Nivea roll-on for men 😉 which promises 24-hour dryness and comfort. At first, I was impressed—it actually kept the sweat down and had a subtle, non-intrusive scent. But after using it for a month, things took a turn for the worse.

Redness, stinging, itching, irritated skin... I’ve been trying to soothe it with various creams. 😳 🙄 😠

I stopped using it and the irritation subsided slightly, but my curiosity got the better of me. I wanted to confirm if the roll-on was truly the culprit, so I applied it one more time. It flared up twice as bad as before. 😢
It's feeling okay now, and it seems to be clearing up without needing a doctor, but I'm left wondering why this happened. Does anyone here have any idea what could cause a reaction like this? I'm genuinely stumped. It isn't a matter of poor hygiene; I stay clean. Interestingly, when I use the Nivea deodorant with the exact same scent and claims, I don't get a reaction—in fact, it almost seems to soothe the inflammation. I heard there's some powder in the formula, maybe that helps. 🤔

Has anyone else dealt with something similar, and if so, what caused it?

I used to use Off!... It’s not quite the same, but I guess it's close enough...

The reaction was disgusting and super uncomfortable... my skin ended up dry, red, and peeling...🙂

Exactly, that’s the reaction I get—it starts out feeling dry and itchy, and then it just starts chafing. Sometimes it even gets that stinging sensation whenever you move. 🙄

You’re probably allergic to something in there, or maybe it’s just way too harsh for your sensitive skin 😎

Just find a milder brand that actually works for you, toss that one in the trash, and give those aisles a wide berth next time

Maybe try Nivea, but not the roll-on—one of those other ones. It’s small too, but it's more of a solid than a liquid, and it doesn't have any alcohol in it.

I used to deal with that same stuff, but ever since I switched to this, everything's been fine, I guess. There are like two different kinds, if I remember right.

Anyway, if you're getting reactions like that, it's probably just the alcohol in them messing with you.

I had a similar reaction to a Dove roll-on.

The conclusion? I’m hypersensitive to one of the ingredients.
I don't mess around with Nivea anymore. I haven't had another breakout since, and brands like Rexona, Dove, and Secret have been perfectly fine.

I’ve had my fair share of issues with Nivea deodorants.

For the last year, I’ve completely ditched antiperspirants. They only block the sweat for maybe an hour... and then you're just left with a much worse stain on your clothes... 🙄

When I really think about it... sweating is what the body is supposed to do... stopping it altogether doesn't feel right to me.

Now I just use a Vaseline stick... just a standard deodorant... It doesn't stop the sweat, but the scent stays fresh for a long time.

Right... 🙂the roll-ons don't have any alcohol in them.

I've been using Beloderm ointment and Claritin, and since I'm pretty new to this 🙂...
After just a day and a half, the redness has almost completely cleared up. 👋
