Swords and sword fighting. That's basically a guarantee the movie's good.
It wasn't bad. Could've been better, sure, but whatever... I actually completely forgot about it. Turning on the TV to give it another watch now.

just watching some stuff on PBS now, and man, the visual vibe is just weird. totally different from how I remember renting movies on VHS back in the day. everything on TV now almost looks like someone just pointed a camera at a movie screen in a theater... 😁

I’m actually really digging this. I’m not exactly sitting here waiting for some deep Shakespearean drama like Hamlet, but if we get plenty of intense swordplay and some satisfying hack-and-slash action, then I am all in!

I found the film to be absolutely superb.

I thought the movie was pretty solid, though I can't shake this nagging feeling that there was just one little thing missing to make it truly great. But honestly? Who cares! It’s still a good watch.

As long as there are swords and blood I and plenty of action, I'm definitely on board with a movie like this.🙂

The movie is alright. If you're into swords, heroism, and carnage, you'll love it. If not, maybe just stay quiet and stick to those more mild-mannered films...

I caught this in theaters and thought the film was perfectly decent. My only gripe was that I expected them to be battling non-human enemies, which would have been killer. I suppose that's just how it goes since McTiernan directed it (Predator? 🙂)

They did a decent job casting Antonia—though next to the rest of the cast, she looks like... well, you know the vibe.

Way to go, genius. You basically just invented a whole new genre called "milder movies." Look, man, surely you get that a movie is either good or bad regardless of the subject matter. There are great movies in any genre because they're directed well, have a solid story, coherent plots, and real characters. Sure, having good fight scenes helps in this genre, but if everything else fails, it doesn't matter. At the end of the day, the foundation of any film is the story, and this one was just dull. Why should I shut up? I love a good fantasy flick just as much as a family drama. But if either one is poorly made, it's a bad movie. Just seeing someone walk on screen with a sword doesn't make it work. If that's enough for you, fine, but you'll grow out of it eventually...👋

Look, I’ve never actually sat down to read Beowulf, but a buddy of mine who’s obsessed with Celtic and Norman mythology gave me a heads-up about it. And sure enough: an old king calls for help because some mysterious "monster" is slaughtering his subjects. A hero shows up, and the king's son immediately hates him because he realizes Beowulf is the kind of alpha male the prince could never hope to be. Beowulf takes down the "monster," but to clinch the victory, he has to face off against its "mother." He ends up fatally wounded in the fight and dies right alongside her.

Good grief, go wash your keyboard with soap immediately!😠 The movie is an absolute masterpiece. Honestly—if we could just get the Director's cut, that would be the ultimate holy grail. James Cameron was basically forced out of the editing room because the studio wanted it to feel more like Zorro, whereas he wanted to lean into the grit and the gore. It’s actually wild to think about how incredible this flick would've been if he’d been allowed to finish his vision!
