Quick little update:
We rolled in around 3:30. Denver is a killer city. Everything is clean, organized, and just looks great. We spent the day wandering around, grabbing some falafel, ice cream, and lemonade. Eventually, we wandered over to that new Chinese bubble tea spotβitβs super fancy and modern. We grabbed some light Bernard sodas with those fun little caps and couldn't stop laughing because we made it inside just minutes before a massive downpour hit. Then Damir showed up, so we hung out, chatted, and toasted to his upcoming arrival. It was a blast.
The Ethiopian group was such a lively crew and they played great. They actually got the local crowd singing along with them, and by the end, they had everyone sucked into a tribal-style circle pit. Darko and I were the first ones shoved right π¬ Interestingly, there were way more photographers shooting this gig than at shows like this back in Washington, D.C. There were a few pros in the mix (you could tell by their gear and how ready they were for the show) and a bunch of amateurs, but the main thing is that everyoneβs equipment is leagues better than ours poor Americans. Itβs not every day you see Canon 1Ds with white lenses and Nikons with gold rings on the glass parading around in front of me at a punk show.
The Ex played the same set as they did in D.C. (though it felt longer there to me; Darko says they just skipped one encore song), and man, they absolutely crushed it. The singer was soaked through by the end, and his red shirt was clinging to his chest so he looked totally gross π³ They played incredibly well, the vibe was awesome, and the Denver crowd was high-energy and dancing the whole time.
Right after the show, we headed back to the station where Darko inhaled a chicken pita and I smashed a plastic-wrapped sandwich. Then we crashed in a compartment with some Canadian women, kicked off our stinky sneakers, and slept until the border. Back in Washington, D.C., we were met with some crazy stormy weather, so we hopped on our bikes and pedaled like hell to get home, arriving just before the rain started. All we could do was laugh at our luck and pass out.
