cheese and cream say:
.........do these elite, battle-hardened, veteran pilots with years of training actually understand the concept of altitude?

๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿคฃ

Exactly. I mean, why on earth wouldn't he just climb higher? It seems obvious.

I did a little digging online earlier; here you go, enjoy:

This movie is absolutely brainless. First off, there are like a hundred helicopters hovering over the city for no reason, and then they get attacked by four little guys that can't do anything at all, only for three jets to swoop in at the last second and fix everything. Like, why didn't they think of that earlier? And that whole thing with the Europeans? Just typical American propaganda about how weโ€™re the only ones saving the worldโ€”honestly, I'm sick of it. Someone mentioned Independence Day earlier, and let me tell you, that movie has the absolute worst ending in history. A guy defeats aliens with a computer virus? Please. Viruses don't even jump from Windows to Linux, let alone onto an alien mothership. It's no wonder Americans turn out the way they do when they're raised on this garbage.๐Ÿ™‚

Itโ€™s all nonsense, this Godzilla business. It follows the exact same formula as Independence Day: some massive threat emerges, and then some random expertโ€”with a little help from his buddiesโ€”saves the world. Meanwhile, the official authorities supposedly "fighting" the crisis end up causing more damage than they actually prevent. ๐Ÿ™„

Eeeej, I sat through Bad Boys II last night. Itโ€™s absolute chaos compared to Godzilla. That Lizard (and even the military) isn't even half as destructive as Will Smith making a mess of the city. ๐Ÿ˜

The movie is so full of glaring mistakes that itโ€™s honestly not even worth pointing them out.

Honestly, everyone, movies like Godzilla and its ilk are pure, unadulterated trash. They are just so incredibly idiotic (and I don't mean "stupid"โ€”that is an entirely different category of ๐Ÿ˜ ) that after enough time passes, they actually become enjoyable, provided you view them from a somewhat warped perspective.

One simply cannot be serious about Godzilla or WWW (unless, of course, someone like Scorsese had been behind the camera to direct them ๐Ÿ˜Ž ).

Personally, I would have found it far more moving if Godzilla had simply expired after taking multiple shots to the body while tangled up in a bridge; the crowd watches on, and Godzilla just looks at them pleadingly with those massive eyes, right before letting out a tiny whimper like a puppy, while Broderick holds his breath to keep from shedding a tear. But I suppose that wouldn't fly with the animal rights activists. Americans...

..I'm with you...you don't even need to look for ๐Ÿค” artistic value in movies like this (even if they have killer special effects)..they're made (obviously just to rake in huge $$$) to entertain the masses, so you can forget half the movie right after leaving the theater or switching channels...I've watched it at least ten times (if not more)..I just pop it in the player, hit play, and let my brain go on autopilot...Most of the time, that's exactly what I want from a movie...

...can't wait for Independence Day to hit DVD...

casualotter21 said:What was even up with those soldiers firing infantry weapons at Godzilla? Like, seriously, manโ€”take a look at a single round youโ€™re about to chamber from your M-16! Now take a look at that monster screaming atop the Empire State Building! Are you starting to notice the sheer, unadulterated stupidity of what you're doing? Hmmm?

Well, those kinds of "brilliant" solutions exist in real life too. I still remember people during the wars over here who thought they could take down fighter jets by shooting rifles from their apartment balconies. ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜ Mirko, watch out for the bullets!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Like GNN would say... "Are you finally starting to realize just how incredibly stupid this whole thing is?" ๐Ÿ˜

I don't get why everyone is tearing this movie apartโ€”as if they didn't realize Emmerich is actually poking fun at Americans in general? Specifically at our military and that whole "if you don't do what we say, we'll crush you like a bug" attitude. I honestly thought people might view it differently given how much anti-American sentiment is floating around lately, but clearly, most people are just conformists who prefer following the crowd. Just look at Armageddon for comparisonโ€”in that one, the US pulls out every bit of hardware and manpower available, backed by an orchestral score practically bursting with pride and patriotism, yet even then, they can't pull it off. I think this movie is seriously misunderstood. If someone like Kevin Smith had directed it, everyone would be raving about how brilliantly it mocks Americans and our way of handling things; but since it's Emmerich, the consensus is just that the movie is crap.

My opinion is determined simply by watching the film and deciding whether I like it or not. In this instance, I found the movie amusing. However, I am genuinely curious about what you're basing this idea that Godzilla is an anti-American satire. I really need to see that logic laid out.๐Ÿ˜

...supposedly George W. Bush watched Godzilla and decided how to attack Iraq...But didn't you see the pure bloodlust in Godzilla's eyes? It was just as bad as the look in Osama bin Laden's or Saddam's eyes..๐Ÿ˜

George W.: "Donald, I watched this German documentary last night and a brilliant idea just hit me."

Donald: "Uh-oh."

George W.: "I think we should nuke Hawaii to trigger some kind of lizard mutation into a 90-meter monster. Then, you and I can use ancient voodoo magic to control it and deploy it against Iraq. Victory will be ours, let's go call Tony."

Are you actually talking about "Starship Troopers" right now?

Itโ€™s pretty obvious Emmerich has a personal vendetta against New York City. First he gets torched by aliens, then Godzilla levels the place, and if I remember correctly, his new flick has the Big Apple buried under ice and water. At this rate, all he needs is an earthquake to finally complete his artistic cycle of destroying New York...

Itโ€™s not satireโ€”itโ€™s just a mockery.

It isn't satire; itโ€™s just a mockery.

Oh, how wonderful, now you've decided to correct me. Regardless, I didn't walk away feeling like I'd witnessed some grand piece of social commentary. It seems to me that disaster movies follow a predictable pattern: either the day is saved by a squad of tall, blue-eyed, handsome soldiers with square beardsโ€”that was the standard back in the 1950sโ€”or, more commonly in recent years, everything falls apart and a group of lovable outsiders has to step up to fix the mess. For this one, Emmerich opted for the second approach. There isn't much intellectual depth to be found there.
