Honestly, I’ve developed a total dependency on gum. Like, a serious one. Does anyone have any advice on how to break the habit?
I tried switching over to hard candy, but then I just end up with a constant sweet taste in my mouth, which doesn't really solve anything...

Doesn't your jaw ache from constantly chewing through all those different types of gum?
Honestly, I could barely finish my bacon today, let alone deal with the endless snacking on gum... 😁
BTW, I had no idea you were actually addicted to it. 😛

Well, my jaw actually started aching yesterday, which was my cue to finally call it quits...

Of course you didn't notice, while I was over here discreetly chewing away... 😉

I’m in the exact same boat! I find myself tearing through a pack and a half every single day, and I honestly feel lost without them. As for how to kick the habit—I haven't the slightest clue, and frankly, I haven't even tried because I don't think I could handle being without it...

Honestly, I’d love nothing more than to have a piece of gum in my mouth 24/7, but my jaw just can't take it anymore! It gets to the point where I feel a headache coming on, so I have to force myself to stop constantly popping pieces in. I'm honestly at my absolute worst when I buy those Hubba Bubba packs—I start blowing these massive bubbles in public and just can't help myself! 🎉

Sometimes, I’ve actually ended up with a bit of a headache just from chewing too much.
But, honestly? I can't seem to stop. 😬
I guess I’m officially part of the gum-chewing addict club.

Hey, name's Mrkva and I'm a total Zaxby's addict...

Now the rest of the addicts can clap while Mrkva takes her rightful seat.

The Gum Addiction
Every time I stumble upon an article claiming that gum—and let’s not forget stuff like Coke—is packed with substances designed to trigger cravings or straight-up addiction...
Take those "diet" or sugar-free drinks, for instance. They swap out the sugar for artificial sweeteners, but all they really do is spike your cravings, leaving you trapped in this endless cycle of drinking more and more just to feel satisfied...

Oh man, I remember when I was little, someone actually told me that gum was made out of beef thighs and pig fat😁 , and after hearing that, my gum practically flew several feet out of my mouth...😛

So, get this—when I was little, people used to tell me that sausages were made out of nothing but greasy chicken thighs and pig scraps😁 , and honestly, after hearing that, I could practically taste the grossness flying out of my mouth!😛

Meanwhile, my grandma used to swear that pâté was actually made from ground-up cats😲 but hey, I ate it all anyway, so clearly I had no standards!🙂

I mostly stick to white Orbit... It’s easily my favorite, so I always have some on me. Aside from that, I can't live without my Labelle, though it doesn't give me any trouble—unlike this gum, which is actually starting to make my jaw ache.

I tried to go a few hours without chewing today, but I ended up just mindlessly snacking on chocolate, sipping water, and feeling completely on edge...
In the end, I gave in, ran down to the local 7-Eleven, and grabbed some more. So, yeah, I'm back to chewing. 😍

When I buy a pack of Orbit cherry gum (😍 ), this is basically how it goes...

🤔

I open the pack, grab one piece, chew it for maybe thirty seconds, then grab another... chew that... then eventually I get bored and toss it... after about twenty minutes, I’ll pop two pieces in at once, chew for ten minutes, spit them out... then I just start the whole cycle over again, and before I know it, the pack is empty 😬. But what am I supposed to do when I love the flavor but it disappears so fast? 🙄 Just my little contribution to the thread 👋.

Personally, I tend to just keep stuffing pieces in rather than throwing them out. But once I hit about seven pieces, my jaw starts acting up, so that's when I finally call it quits. Then, I just start the whole process from scratch. 😁

I usually just grab the Orbit Winterfresh—you know, those dark blue packs.
Sometimes I even get a bit of a headache from all the chewing.😁

It’s a bit more comforting now that I see we aren't alone in this...

At this rate, we might just have enough people to start our own SEC (Secret Enthusiasts of Chewing gum)... 😁 😉

nimbleskipper17 here, and yes—I am a total gum addict.

Fortunately, I don’t break the bank on my habit because I have this rather peculiar system: I only chew half a piece at a time, then tuck the other half back into the pack. And before anyone asks—no, I don't bite them into pieces; I just snap them in half. It's a necessity, really, because if I try to tackle a whole piece at once, my jaw starts aching incessantly. I’ve been loyal to Orbit White for as long as I can remember.

I truly wish I could kick this habit, though. Honestly, the way I chew is quite unsightly—rather unrefined, if I'm being blunt. But there's a nagging fear that if I stop, I'll just find something else to replace it with. I might pick up smoking again, or go back to biting my nails... or worse, I'll just invent some entirely new, even more terrible habit.
