Clash of the Titans (2016)

Just when you thought we couldn't get enough mythological blockbusters, here comes another one diving into the world of Egyptian gods, titled... well, "Gods of Egypt."

"Gods of Egypt" is an American fantasy film directed by Alex Proyas, who teamed up with Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless on the script.
The production took place in Australia through Summit Entertainment, and it’ll be hitting theaters via Lionsgate.
Mark your calendars—it’s dropping February 26th next year.

It actually sounds like it could be quite an interesting ride.
Ever since The Mummy, we haven't really seen a proper big-budget adaptation of Egyptian mythology—which would be a refreshing change of pace compared to all those endless Greek and Norse myth adaptations we keep getting.

It all seems rather disorganized; while the visual presentation is undeniably stunning, I am struggling to grasp the actual narrative core 🤣...it feels like some sort of haphazard blend of ancient Egypt, The Mummy, and Iron Man 😁

Honestly, this looks like it’ll turn out to be one of those perfect popcorn movies. Just something fun to sink into. 🍿

I've seen better graphics on a PlayStation 2.

This looks pretty terrible.

Hopefully they can fix it, but unfortunately, the CGI is just bad.

Here's another example of how crappy CGI can ruin a movie.

Looks even worse than Clash of the Titans.

I find it difficult to believe that anything will truly surpass films like "Clash of the Titans" or "John Carter"—honestly, where do we even go from there? Are there any other movies out there that capture that specific style? Perhaps "Immortals"? To me, they all seem to share the exact same vibe. They feel like they were constructed entirely from a template—offering a handful of flashy, high-budget scenes, yet lacking any real substance and remaining incredibly easy to forget.
There is always an audience waiting for mythological blockbusters—so I assume that is exactly what they are counting on; in other words, they are looking to fill that specific niche.
The casting isn't exactly bad—I mean, Gerard Butler is solid—but I can't say I'm feeling particularly optimistic about this one.

Maybe a torrent. The theater? Highly unlikely.

Absolute disaster.

I actually liked the concept, but once I saw how they pulled it off, I was totally blindsided. Honestly, it feels like Proyas just made this as a cheap substitute for his unfinished "Paradise Lost".

It looks like the CGI completely fried his brain. He started messing up effects in "I, Robot", kept sliding in "Knowing", and then just straight-up nuked everything in this new flick. Such a shame. At this point, I'll probably just remember him for "Raven" and "Dark City"—total waste of talent.☕

If Apophis actually showed up, he'd probably just wipe out the whole Shol'vama crew in one go... 😉 😁

Visually, I have to admit there is some appeal to it. However, when it comes to the actual plot, I suspect it might just be more high-budget trash. I’d love to be proven wrong, but having sat through plenty of similar films, I fear my first instinct might be hitting the mark.

So, has anyone actually sat through this yet? What are we thinking?

It’s okay, I guess, but they stripped away too much substance. You pretty much see the whole plot coming from a mile away—there isn't much actual tension because you know exactly how it's going to end right from the start. It leans way too hard on the visual effects, which, to be fair, are decent.
So, if you're looking for a movie that actually keeps you guessing, you should probably skip this one. 😁But if you just want to sit back and watch constant CGI, go ahead; honestly, that’s the only thing that makes it watchable.

It’s just way too serious... honestly... THIS is the work signed by the director behind The Crow, Dark City, and Knowing? Before I even found out this thing was flopping at the US box office, I was actually going to sit here and type out some polite "well, everyone has their own taste" nonsense, but let’s be real—that’s totally unnecessary. Look, I don't have anything against stories about mythological clashes between gods and mortals; in fact, I've become pretty indifferent to the whole genre after being bombarded with all those remakes like Clash of the Titans, Immortals, and whatever happened to 300? (Seriously, who cares anymore!?) But, if you're going to dive into that kind of epic territory, please, just don't strip the movie down to cheap, comic-booky Marvel action, cheesy dialogue, and nothing but over-the-top CGI explosions... which seems to be the only thing this title offers, judging by the trailer. It doesn't even feel like a fun little retro homage to things like Hercules or Xena that we used to see on TV about twenty years ago!

Honestly, if Gerard Butler just stood at the top of a pyramid in the movie and yelled "THIS IS SPARTA," I’d be perfectly happy.--🙂
