AntenBoy said:Honestly, that "Mad World" track from Donnie Darko just hits different... it’s absolutely haunting when you're actually going through hell life's throwing at you.😁

👍 🙂

And I'd throw Crimson's Epitaph into that mix too.

Man, that woman from the movie "Closer" just breaks my heart.
Anyone know who sings that track? And what was the song called again?

What’s the deal with Damien Rice—or whatever that Blow-something’s daughter thing is?

My absolute go-to tearjerkers

Jeff Buckley—Lover, You Should've Come Over
Chris Cornell—Euphoria Morning
American Music Club—Apology for the Accident
Bright Eyes—Messenger Bird
At the Drive-In—Napoleon Solo

And plenty of Xiu Xiu too, though usually in a weirdly hilarious way😁

Honestly, you could pull an endless stream of those "heart-wrenching" tracks out of thin air if you really wanted to... I’m talking about the whole Gibson miracle, Guns N' Roses' "Don't Cry," Queen's "Love of My Life," HIM's "Gone with a Sin," Bryan Adams' "Please Forgive Me"... and then, wouldn't you know it, one outlier sneaks into the group—Metallica's "To Live Is to Die." Then there's "Too Much Love Will Kill You," "The Show Must Go On," and "Who Wants to Live Forever," all by Queen... It’s funny when you actually stop to think about it, isn't it? They really did have a massive repertoire of just pure, unadulterated melancholy...

Oh, I almost let it slip my mind—the absolute legend itself, Celine Dion, with "My Heart Will Go On."

Don McLean - Vincent
Maybe it’s because I’m obsessed with Van Gogh—my place is basically covered in his prints—and when I visited the MoMA last year, I seriously almost broke down crying right there in the middle of the gallery.
Or maybe I’m just a total crybaby.

Looking at the list though, Jeff Buckley really hits me where it hurts—"Hallelujah" actually floors me more than "Lover, You Should've Come Over" or "Lilac Vine." (Not that Leonard Cohen's original doesn't hit, he's got better stuff out there, but Buckley's take... man, that vocal... just chills me to the bone.)

Try Manitoba - Skunks
Alright, this one won't make you sob. 😁

I’d also throw Crimson’s Epitaph into the mix.

Honestly, though, "Starless" by King Crimson is an absolute wrecking ball—it leaves you feeling completely lost, especially that first section. But man, those guys have this incredible knack for just tearing everything apart. I’d definitely toss "One Time" from the THRAK album into the conversation too.
King Crimson Forever !!!!

For me, it’s more about Deep Purple's "Child in Time" or "Soldier of Fortune," but in a much heavier emotional sense—like a mourning song for a past that can never be repeated or even fully lived through. 😢 😎

"Blue Eyes" just absolutely destroys me... especially that one part: "Please say yes, yes! Say you and your blue eyes will wait for me" 😢

The Smiths—I Know It’s Over... Chris Isaak—Wicked Game... Radiohead—Bulletproof... Smashing Pumpkins—Stand Inside Your Love... plus a few more. There's a million songs out there, aren't there?🙂

Since we’re already discussing Ward—honestly, whenever I see him, The Undertaker just sends me straight into a state of emotional upheaval... my tear ducts can barely keep up. And it isn't as if his version of Story of an artist is any different, really. Back when I was just a teenager—those were simpler times, I suppose—I used to be absolutely haunted by Favorite T by Lemonheads. 😍

Okay, let me correct myself—so many of Ward's things... well, all of Ward's work—really drive you to the edge. That’s just the honest truth. But I completely forgot about The Undertaker—I actually started tearing up just thinking about Led Zeppelin. 😢 It is truly heartbreaking—I honestly don't think I could hold it together. I actually asked my friends to take me out for a drink after the show just to help me snap out of it, if they happen to play that song...

You could list any song you want here—honestly—but if you ask me, that one is easily the saddest song in existence. :)))))))

She just remembered her runner-up finish.
The blurred "no distance left to run" vibe—but only when paired with Vinterberg’s brilliant shot... *sigh*

Man, I get so emotional whenever I listen to Radiohead’s "Thinking About You"... then there's Screaming Trees with "Look At You," 😢 Interpol - NYC 😢 and even Ocean Colour Scene - Biggest Thing... but honestly, the only things that actually make me cry are cute little bunnies and tiny streams. 😢
