Cleveland bands - Nike, City, Mirror

Have you all had a chance to listen to that segment of the Cleveland rock scene? Personally, I find their tracks to be quite 👍.

about everything I’ve witnessed firsthand
it seems like the punks always have some grand achievement to boast about 🙂

Unholy-ev.... we actually played a set with them at a club in Cleveland about a year ago... honestly, they just didn't do anything for me.

The site is actually pretty decent... Ernesto built it himself... It’s a bit cluttered right now, but I'm sure Ernesto will clean it up eventually 🙂

Yeah... I honestly can't picture them from back then... but there was this one massive guitar festival happening right when they were around, and I think there were about five different bands playing...

Man... honestly? He’s the only one there who looks remotely sane—unlike the singer. I mean, if I ever actually end up grabbing a drink with Ernest, I just can't wrap my head around him playing in UI... the guy is totally chill. Not some hyperactive maniac like Ljubičić. 🙄

I’m not exactly up to speed on the current punk, hardcore, or metal scene in Cleveland—maybe it’s because some of those musicians are old enough to be my dad—but I’ve heard nothing but great things about Pasim. I've also heard there's some solid metal floating around. And the Shells are 🙏 🙏 🙏

That said, Cleveland is definitely not a rock town. Where are the dedicated clubs, the dive bars, the fanzines, or the radio stations? Where can kids just put on shows week in and week out instead of waiting for some big annual festival? When was the last time an international band played here, outside of the open fest? And what’s the deal with the local DJs?
All these years, I’ve been wondering why things are so stagnant, and honestly, I don't have an answer—especially since I know a ton of people who absolutely shred 😕

So, what do the locals think of this little provocation???

As far as I can remember, those bands were from the late '80s—pretty pale, boring, and just plain mediocre. It was this desperate, messy blend of dark post-punk, U2, and Simple Minds vibes. I think I have a record somewhere by Ri-Paris-Texas, but the only decent track was "Tonight Belgrade Burns"—I can't recall who actually played it, and honestly, I can't be bothered to dig through my vinyl collection to check—and then, obviously, Let3 were the standout. They were the only ones who actually made something meaningful out of that scene later on, mostly because they actually had potential, unlike everyone else.

Well, there was No Face from Canada playing metal last year... and Doro Pesch, and Electric Orgasm was here last Friday... so it's not a provocation, it's just the truth. Nobody has the money to put on a real concert. There's only enough cash for Guitar Jam... and barely enough for Rockfest. Spirit, what you said about "kids being able to play shows week in and week out"... they can go check it out there... free gigs (basically just rehearsals) with a small cover charge $3.25 .. when a friend of mine was playing, it was pretty much like that.... I don't listen to DJs, not even techno... though I heard from a friend that Cleveland has a hell of a lot of good DJs..
