No.
It’s just that at my company, there are plenty of middle-aged employees with kids in high school or college. Nobody dares fight for their rights because they're terrified of being replaced. Meanwhile, the firm brings in outsiders who barely finished middle school—people with zero qualifications beyond entry-level labor. These newcomers are treated like saints just because they're willing to grind for 12 hours a day, even though they don't actually know how to do anything useful....

Larry Fox5 said:How on earth is an employer supposed to know what counts as an "insulting" raise to you?

Look at this example: say an employee makes $3,850 gross per month. That puts their annual salary at $45k. So, what exactly qualifies as a "respectful" raise in your book? In Germany, the standard rule is that annual raises usually fall between 3% and 5% unless you're moving up to a new role.

In my opinion, maybe a 0.5% to 1.5% bump could be considered inappropriate, but then again, I know some jobs governed by union contracts have raises set at exactly 1.5%. And honestly—what does even a 5% raise mean if inflation is sitting at 7-8%? That raise should basically just be keeping pace with inflation, but we all know that’s not how it works...

Since I work at a major corporation, my contract guarantees me a 3% gross salary increase based on my quarterly performance reviews.

coastalheron12 said:I’ve got a pretty specific situation here—let's call it that. My wife and I actually bring in way more than we need, so money isn't really the driver for me. And just to be clear, we aren't talking about being loaded—we're actually making a bit less than the average person around here nowadays.
But because of some "new processes and shifting norms" at the company lately, I started feeling like an idiot. I lost that sense of peace I always had at this job—it used to be my perfect workplace. So, I tried using inflation as a reason for a raise, adding a subtle little hint from the "other stuff" drawer.
Since they didn't bite on that, I would've had to go much more direct—maybe even confrontational. But if eleven years of dealing with these people taught me anything, it's that locals around here just don't know how to have a straight conversation to your face.
So yeah, I'm stuck with this crap. I just deal with it every five or six years when they start giving me grief. 😁

Man, it's freezing out here. You've turned into a complete pushover. I honestly wonder how someone who's lived through so many streets, stadiums, clubs, and late nights could end up as such a stiff office drone... a conformist, even. 🤔

Still in the States for now. But once I wrap up these courses I'm taking this year, I'm planning to emigrate...

Look, here's the actual scoop on what I heard they're hiring for—they need about ten people for an aluminum window and door manufacturing plant in a little town nearby. We're talking $7k, plus travel expenses and lunch is provided right on-site. They managed to fill those spots in like a week.

Milic in Berlin 🙏
Man, what a hell of a city. In my book, it’s easily the best metropolis in all of Europe. Berlin and Barcelona are really the only two cities where I’ve made it a point to go back more than five times—and honestly, I can see myself heading back at least another dozen times before I kick the bucket.
Btw, Germany is the most boring country I've ever dealt with, but Berlin? Berlin isn't Germany.

You realize they caught him in another lie, right? In one of his recent videos, the shaman was bragging about being at a friend's estate—apparently this guy has a massive pool and a view overlooking the jungle. Just a few hours after that video dropped, some eagle-eyed internet sleuths tracked down this:

Regardless of everything going on in Ukraine, I have to give a quick recap of Saturday and the first of the five biggest one-day classics—the most prestigious ones, to be exact: Milan-San Remo--> La Classicissima di primavera

So, this is how Matej Mohorič pulled it off and won the race... it’s already become legendary, I guess. At the start, almost all the favorites were there—Wout van Aert, Mathieu van der Poel (who just finished training in Spain, his first race of the year), Tadej Pogacar, Primož Roglič, Peter Sagan, a bunch of Italians and Frenchmen, etc.

The race is nearly 186 miles long, and before the descent into San Remo, there are two nasty climbs: Cipressa and Poggio. The descent to the finish is about 5-3.7 miles. On the final summit, Mohorič was in the lead group of favorites that broke away, and then—well, he just left them in the dust with that insane descent..

Pay attention to two details: how he cleared the curb with a bunny hop and just how fast he was going... and how his wheel slipped ten seconds later, nearly sending him straight into the guardrail on a hairpin turn. Apparently, Sagan said he wasn't willing to take those kinds of risks just for a win (and Sagan is one of the best technicians in the peloton). Also, word is Mohorič told Pogacar before the race not to try following him down if they hit the last climb together. So, he had it all planned out, I suppose. The proof is that he used a dropper seatpost—he basically caught the UCI off guard since they don't even have a specific rule about whether you can use them in races or not.. That's why after the race he said, 'I've destroyed cycling - again.' (Because of his 'super-tuck' position which he practically invented and brought to the peloton, the UCI actually changed the rules once to ban it for safety reasons... idiots). We still don't know what happens with the dropper post. I'm happy for him, though; he had a bit of a rough patch before those wins at the Tour de France last year..

bluebison10 said:I don't get how people let employers walk all over them so easily. Last year, my boss gave me a raise of maybe a couple hundred bucks. I sent it right back to his account with the tax burden included—I actually wrote in the memo, "Returning your insulting raise, including the tax paid, so you aren't shortchanged." See how quickly I got a call within ten days asking what the hell the problem was....

It isn't exactly a profound mystery, is it? You clearly possess some level of leverage that allows you to negotiate from a position of strength. Most jobs out there consist of "basic" labor—ranging from administrative tasks to physical work within a specific field—that can be learned quite rapidly, making the employee easily replaceable. If one were to attempt such negotiations from a position of mediocrity, they would likely find themselves swiftly directed toward the HR office to sign paperwork just to collect their final paycheck.😁

On a different note, is it becoming impossible to find Jordans in America anymore?🤔

Mix narcissism with pathological lying and you end up with Vedran.

I mean, if there's one thing you have to give him, it's that he's damn persistent. But that lying habit is getting so out of hand he's basically gaslighting himself at this point.

I suppose I have a colleague who tends to forget the specifics of what they were presenting, which leads them to inadvertently misrepresent the facts themselves.
