Music is my entire existence... there's always something playing in my house and it has to be constant!!! Whether I'm taking care of business, alone in my room, eating, or even just scratching my heel... honestly, life just doesn't function without music!!
Heading to the beach today!! :P haha :>

How much does what we listen to depend on whatever mood we're in at the moment? (Rhetorical question, obviously)😁
For example, when I'm winding down for bed, I usually stick to tracks with a light, chill, relaxing tempo.
What about you guys?

Haha! I’d love to see someone trying to listen to Ministry right before hitting the hay. Honestly, what kind of substances would you have to be on to fall asleep to 180 BPM and 120 decibels?

I actually have a specific playlist just for highway driving! Stuff like ADF, Propellerheads, and things like that. Basically, anything that keeps the beat moving faster than the wheels on my car.

Then, I have a completely different vibe for that 5 AM drive back home. There’s just something strangely perfect about the combination of an empty road, the sunrise, a growing hangover, and Kruder & Dorfmeister Sessions.

I’ve always thought jazz fans were a little bit schizophrenic... or at least they lean heavily in that direction.

My buddies actually sat me down and gave me an assessment, and honestly, I think they might be onto something. Little jerks. 😁

I don't know about anyone else, but I know for a fact that what you listen to doesn't necessarily have anything to do with how smart you are. It's more about the environment you grew up in and just your overall sensibility...

I usually split music lovers into two camps—the ones who obsess over the lyrics and the ones who are all about the instrumental side. I definitely fall into the second group. I'll admit, I never really bother listening to the lyrics; I'll hum along to a track without even making a single attempt to process the words... or what they're actually saying...

Can one of you fanatics actually explain why this is even a thing?

So what's the problem with people listening to basic electronic stuff or those guys singing about how life sucks and they want to jump out a window because they can't breathe...

Minimalist electronic stuff😕 😕
Give me some examples of those types of artists who play guitar without any oxygen in the room😁

Man, I feel that. It’s so annoying... especially when they won't stop lecturing you on their taste and basically try to force you to listen to whatever they're into.👎

Gillead, if you want a real glimpse into what truly unhinged people listen to, check out Burzum. He’s wild, and honestly, the people who follow him are just as crazy—myself included. You hit the nail on the head when you said you have to be a little bit nuts to get into intense stuff like Burzum and that kind of music. 👍

To even get through a Burzum track, you basically have to go deaf first😁
Sorry, I just couldn't hold it back.
Honestly, I’d love for someone to explain why people actually listen to Black metal. I don't care much for other metal subgenres—there's stuff I enjoy—but Black metal... the lyrics about how great it'll be when the devil arrives, all that "we're evil and passionate" nonsense, and music that sounds like the worst kind of techno. It's just a drummer hitting things until it turns into one big, loud mess where the actual music gets lost.
I don't have a problem with metalheads in general, or anyone else (except for stupid people. And honestly, "stupid" is a pretty subjective category. Okay, fine, I have prejudices!😛)
...So?

Regarding what Angela Jones40 said about Black metal, it’s both the music and the belief system, so you just have to draw your own conclusions. It’s like how someone who doesn't listen to jazz can't possibly grasp why a jazz fan would be so blown away at a quartet concert; if you don't listen to Black metal, you simply won't get it.

Beyond just the aesthetic vibes, music hits you right on a psychological level. What we choose to listen to really comes down to the specific emotions we’re trying to stir up within ourselves. Does someone need to be some kind of weirdo to dig Burzum? By definition, Black metal is meant to sound ugly and sinister, and Burzum definitely fits that mold. Listening to it doesn't mean you're actually a bad or unpleasant person, but it does mean you probably want to tap into that darkness, even if it's just for a moment. There’s nothing particularly groundbreaking about that.

I’ve always felt that paying attention to what the people around me are listening to provides a rather revealing glimpse into their underlying personalities.
On any given morning, I can usually gauge my own internal temperament just by checking my playlist to see if I'm waking up feeling particularly agitated or at peace.
My own rotation fluctuates wildly depending on my mood; one moment I might be drifting to the atmospheric sounds of Cave, the next I'm diving into the intensity of Cradle of filth, and occasionally I'll pivot toward some classic American folk-rock.
It is my firm belief that music serves as a profound mirror to one's soul!!!!!!!!!

While I certainly respect everyone else's individual tastes, I do tend to hold quite a few convictions of my own........

I honestly think knowing what someone listens to is pretty essential if you want to figure out who they really are. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against someone who jams to > or whatever, it’s just that in my experience, those folks tend to talk about nothing but superficial stuff... and man, it gets boring fast. So, if I'm hanging out with someone, I’ll naturally gravitate toward people who aren't just chasing whatever is topping the charts. It doesn't even matter if it's jazz, blues, classical, or heavy metal. I usually end up picking people with similar tastes to mine. Sure, we won't have those ridiculous, childish "punk vs. everyone" arguments, but people just tend to bond over shared interests. It sounds a bit cliché, but I read somewhere that opposites attract through their similarities, and it feels true.

People who listen to heavy metal or rock—you know, just constant noise and slamming your head against a wall—are usually pretty aggressive people, whether they show it outwardly or keep it bottled up inside. I honestly can't wrap my head around what's so wrong with people who find this kind of music enjoyable.

The lyrics aren't just mindless nonsense, though; they actually have some depth to them.

Just because some frontmen have a vocal range spanning several octaves doesn't mean they're constantly screaming (and I'm not even talking about nu-metal here).

Some of those guitarists are genuinely incredible talents, too.

Maybe that's why?

Can someone actually explain the appeal to me?

🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

I've been listening to Metallica and metal in general for 15 years, and I still get the same rush from headbanging. I don't do it quite as often as I used to, but...
Yesterday, I went hard to a Metallica track—Fight Fire with Fire. My neck still hurts.

As for the aggression part, you aren't wrong. It's just that most of us metalheads vent that energy through the music (at least I do), so there isn't much left over for real life.
