I was thinking about this last night after watching some high school highlights. It seems like every time a local powerhouse hits a rough patch or loses a legendary senior class, the first thing the coaches and boosters talk about is "rebuilding the culture."

It sounds great in a press release, but I always wonder if it's just a polite way of saying the talent pool has dried up for a season or two. I've seen teams try to lean heavily on "grit" and "discipline" to make up for a lack of star athletes, and while that works for a game or two, it's hard to sustain when you're facing a roster full of kids who are physically more developed than yours.

To me, true culture isn't something you can just manufacture in a single off-season to compensate for a rebuilding year. It’s something that's baked in over a decade. Do you guys think a team can actually "reset" their identity quickly, or is the "culture" talk usually just a placeholder until the next big recruiting class rolls in?
