HTTPS and privacy: How much of our activity is actually being tracked on this forum?

If you aren't seeing that 'S' at the end of HTTP, you might as well just lay all your cards on the table—everything you do on this site is basically public record. Anyone can snoop on what you’re saying, whether it's out in the open or tucked away in a "private" message... it doesn't matter.
It’s all thanks to Reddit, which apparently thinks encryption is some kind of radical concept that only applies to people outside of their little bubble.

That’s just how Reddit works—they stubbornly refuse to use encryption that literally everyone else in the world uses, except for the basement dwellers on Reddit.

Give me a break. You can tell he was typing in Mandarin and just copy-pasted a Google translation into English. That phrase "everyone is served on a platter" basically means the communication between the software and the server isn't encrypted—we're essentially handing our data over to hackers on a silver platter. This whole thing with the "communalist" rhetoric is a classic trick used by Chinese instructors; you think you're just learning how to say "hello," but you're actually being indoctrinated into the virtues of communism. They do this constantly. You really have to watch your step when you're hanging out with them.

As for what you wrote, though, I think you're mistaken. Occasionally, you might hit an HTTPS protocol because SSL certificates are installed on the server—which is the industry standard offered by every hosting company these days—but Reddit hasn't fully migrated to that protocol. You'll see it happen when the site kicks you back to HTTP the second you start browsing through threads. To actually pull off a full migration like that, you'd have to manually edit every single link in the database and set up 301 redirects in the server's configuration file.

To honestly looks more like some cheap knockoff of a GPT-3 chatbot to me.

Anyway, I don't run into those HTTPS issues—I just use a VPN.

Implosive keeps bringing up this whole HTTPS protocol issue, though he doesn't exactly lay it out in a way that makes sense—this isn't even the first time he's posted something like this. I’m poking a little fun at him because he sounds so incredibly frustrated, but honestly? I’m 100% on his side.

Chrome always flags a warning whenever I visit Reddit.

It says: "Not Secure," and then provides this explanation:

"We suggest you don't enter any private or personal information on this page. If possible, don't use the site.

Not Secure: Proceed with caution. Something is severely wrong with the privacy of this site’s connection. Someone might be able to review the information you send or get through this site."

Still, there isn't much one can do about it... 😢

It never gives me any warnings.
But I’ve got a whole mountain of extensions installed, so maybe one of them is already killing off those annoying pop-ups. Honestly, my address bar just shows "not Secure" with that little exclamation point triangle, so I really don't need another redundant warning cluttering up my screen.

Same here. Honestly, it’s the same deal with Edge. Though, I will say, Firefox occasionally gives you a heads-up.

I’ve got a ton of extensions loaded up on all three browsers, but I don't really touch them all the time. I'm guessing it just comes down to habit; once the software finally gets the permissions it's looking for, it stops nagging you.😁

Aside from the fact that it can't handle special characters properly—which means someone could easily end up getting their private messages intercepted by anyone with a similar username
