We don't even need a moderator who is an economics expert right now. We just need someone with the backbone to scan the threads daily and penalize the trolls, the off-topic posters, and the bullies until some semblance of order is restored. Once that happens, then you can look for someone to actually moderate the substance of the debates to keep them productive.
Just look at the recent posts from these users—who, by the way, are blatant clones of previously banned accounts:
It takes less than five minutes to see this reality if you bother to check the recent activity of certain members. I don't know what kind of obsession they have with people who moved away, but because of them, we’re seeing a counter-attack where arguments drag on through endless pages of nonsense.
And don't even get me started on the specific threads:
- US Tourism - This has turned into a private playground for a few users who spend their time mocking everyone else and bragging about their own properties and future plans. There is a dedicated subforum for landlords for a reason. But the moment anyone tries to discuss macroeconomics, the downsides of tourism, or heaven forbid, tax implications, those five jump in and derail everything. It’s the same small group constantly dominating the space, and they’re the reason the first two threads were shut down.
- What to expect this Fall - A conspiracy theory circus? Talking about Nibiru and other absurdities? These are users who aren't allowed to post in the Ukraine section, so they’ve migrated here to a corner where nobody is moderating.
- Salaries - How much do you earn in the US? - The last ten pages have been nothing but talk about strip clubs, brothels, constant insults, and ad-hominem attacks.
Is anyone going to step up and fix this? Fortunately, the other subforums within the Economic Forum are fine. They are specialized enough that we can still help each other with small businesses, entrepreneurship, investing, loans, and all that. But something has to be done about the main subforum, otherwise, the few decent members left will walk away too.
Before you jump in, do your homework. Otherwise, you just look like a neighborhood gossip.
I’ve been visiting the Economic Forum since 2016. I haven't posted much, but there used to be great topics worth reading. Then the moderators developed this strange attitude. Quote wand1 (there is a difference between censorship and maintaining quality). This Diaboic guy doesn't even understand basic economics, but he certainly needed a lesson before claiming he didn't. He started running wild across all threads with the same tired talking points, destroying every debate. That was when the mods abandoned the subforum. I got so fed up with his useless, reactionary outbursts that I started mocking him, and eventually, I started insulting him too. After that, everyone else got sick of his constant idiocy and followed suit.
Then that guy Chuko, the paratrooper, jumps in and starts handing out handouts. If he actually wanted to restore order, he could have taken a look at what was really happening instead of acting like this.
