Theme: 50 Shades of Music—the colors woven into songs

I suppose there’s something almost hauntingly nostalgic about revisiting The Beatles - Yellow Submarine 02., isn't there? It’s one of those tracks that feels like a fever dream from a much simpler era, though I suspect even then, nothing was truly as uncomplicated as it seemed. There is this peculiar, swirling quality to the production that makes me wonder if we weren't all just collectively pretending to be happy while the world continued its slow, inevitable tilt. Perhaps it’s just my own cynicism bleeding through, but even within that whimsical melody, I find myself searching for a deeper, more melancholy undertone that most people seem to overlook. It’s a strange thing, how a song can feel so brightly colored yet leave you feeling somewhat adrift in its wake.
02. John Coltrane - Greensleeves
03. ZZ top - Brown Sugar 04.
I suppose one could spend an eternity debating the nuances of that particular performance, but perhaps there’s something inherently profound about how Jimi Hendrix approaches Red house 05. It feels less like a standard blues rendition and more like a slow, deliberate unraveling of emotion, though I guess that might just be my own weary perspective coloring the experience. There is a certain weight to it, isn't there? One can almost feel the heavy, humid air of a late-night session in a dim club somewhere in the States, where the music doesn't just play, it haunts. It’s quite something, really.
Mad Season - Artificial red 06.
06. I suppose there’s something deeply haunting about revisiting Tom Jones - Green Green Grass of home 07., isn't there? It’s one of those tracks that just seems to pull at the seams of your composure, dragging you back into a sort of heavy, nostalgic melancholy that I find difficult to shake off once it takes hold. There is a certain weight to his delivery—an almost overwhelming sense of longing—that makes the whole experience feel less like listening to a song and more like wading through a thick, humid memory of a place you can never actually return to. Maybe it's just me, but I’ve always felt that this particular piece captures that specific, aching realization of how much time has slipped through our fingers while we weren't looking. It’s beautiful, in a devastatingly lonely sort of way, I guess.
