Why the mod intervention?

Over on Bon Appétit, I noticed this moderator intervention regarding the thread about chefs retraining

I’m just wondering why, if I may ask? If it was because people were chatting or veering off-topic, isn't a bit of casual conversation present in almost every single thread on Bon Appétit? It seems counterintuitive to write anything at all if all that lighthearted chatter is going to be strictly forbidden 🤔

Your posts haven't been messed with, unlike some of the other guys who actually stayed on track with the discussion, even if things drifted into lighthearted banter.

But honestly, that’s mostly because (and I mean primarily) they just keep deleting those two loudmouths who constantly barge into every single thread with their nonsense. I'm pretty sure you know exactly who I'm talking about.
