PC Upgrade Ideas

Hey there

My motherboard is absolute garbage right now, so I’m trying to figure out what kind of CPU and GPU combo wouldn't be a total waste of time to slap onto it.

Current setup

Dell n68 vgs3 ucc
amd x4 955
radeon 6770
4gb ram
550w OCz fatality

Depends on how much cash you're willing to burn...

But honestly, if you're looking to play anything decent, you're better off just swapping out the CPU, board, and GPU all at once.

If you're working with a tight budget, just swap out the graphics card.

Yeah, exactly. I was thinking along the lines of something like a 270.

I guess I'll start with this, then maybe move on to a new motherboard and CPU later.

One of the few builds where I didn't cheap out on the power supply 👍 so now upgrading won't be a headache...

but that motherboard looks like a total brick 😁 honestly surprised it hasn't fried itself yet

If his motherboard finally gives up the ghost, he should just pick up a decent AM3+ board. He can pop his Phenom back in and actually have a clear upgrade path for a better CPU down the road.

Look, I'm running the stock cooler on my CPU right now, which is a total disaster. If I don't leave the case wide open, the fan starts screaming at 6500 RPM just to keep up. It sounds like a damn jet engine in my room! So yeah, I definitely need some solid recommendations for a decent cooler. Once I get that sorted, I can finally blow out all this dust, shut the case back up, and stop living in a wind tunnel.😁
