It's always better when you share the experience with a crowd.
Hearing everyone else laugh makes even the weaker jokes land harder.
In my opinion, comedies like this—or big blockbusters focused on visual effects—are what you go to the cinema for.
Deep dramas and thrillers are better suited for the small screen.
Well, you don't necessarily have to agree; everyone is different. For me, personally, I think a sci-fi spectacle or a massive blockbuster with tons of CGI is way better on the big screen, along with those intense action flicks where the scale really heightens the experience. But I get why you'd find it more enjoyable to watch a comedy alongside a crowd that's laughing right along with you. Everyone has their own taste, whether we see eye-to-eye or not.
You make a fair point that a great atmosphere where the whole theater is laughing is awesome. But then again, you always run into those people who get annoyed when the folks around them are laughing too loudly. I once saw this heavy-set woman start grumbling at a guy in the line behind her because he was being too loud in the theater—can you believe that? After a failed attempt at saying, "Excuse me, sir, could you...?", the guy finally snapped and ended up in a shouting match within seconds.
Personally, I think a solid thriller is perfect for the cinema, and the same goes for sci-fi and action movies. On the flip side, dramas and comedies often work better on the small screen. Besides, if you're craving that feeling of having a group of people laughing around you, you can just set up a home theater, pop some popcorn, and invite a crew over with some beers or whatever else you like.😁
