Love is a challenge. The opening shot is long and static, capturing the main characters mid-sex. Nothing is hidden from the camera. You see everything—erections, bare breasts, the actress's anatomy. Then comes the climax and ejaculation. From the get-go, it’s clear the actors in Love aren't faking it. There’s no deception here. It’s raw, three-dimensional sex. Much like the earlier works of this provocative indie filmmaker, Love isn't an easy watch. Noah is an artist who breaks taboos and finds beauty in provocation. His first three features (To Be or Not To Be, From Behind, and Enter the Void) are considered modern classics. In them, Noah achieved what few others can—pushing boundaries and creating works that spark both awe and resistance, yet whose uncompromising courage (or madness?) is never in doubt. Electra and Murphy, the couple whose odyssey we follow, are young and stunning. Honestly, human relationships can feel cliché and predictable, so this approach to Love adds a much-needed layer of authenticity. It feels quite autobiographical, too, filled with little nods to the director—Noah puts his whole heart into it, even taking on a small cameo. Some of the dialogue and scenes feel ripped straight from real life, likely because so much was improvised on set.
