I wasn't really feeling Lady Bird—honestly, I just adore Greta in all her Baumbach movies. Like, I swear she’s always playing some version of me, which is kind of wild, but this specific film felt like just another one in a long line of adaptations. It feels like the 15th time someone has tried to turn this book into a movie, and it doesn't really bring anything fresh to the table besides an incredible cast.
The non-linear storytelling was also pretty much a mess for me.

I haven't seen any of the previous versions, but I have to say, this is an excellent film.

Polimac actually made a decent point about this movie for once...
I don't usually find myself nodding along with his takes, to be honest..
Though, if I'm being completely blunt—and just a side note here—it’s a bit of a struggle to sit through a film when they cast four actresses who are, well, let's just say they aren't exactly Hollywood beauties, but there it is..

The book has been turned into 7 (SEVEN) movies, 8 (EIGHT) TV series, 2 (TWO) anime shows, 1 (one) TV musical, plus a bunch of stage plays and musicals—there's even an opera out there somewhere...

I haven't seen everything on that list, and I missed the latest adaptation, though maybe I'll check it out just to see what else they could possibly squeeze out of this story, I guess. The previous films were already picking up Oscars, and if this one has a "star-studded cast," considering the legacy of people like Katharine Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Susan Sarandon, and all those other actors... IMHO, it’s just getting to be a bit much...

I’m not really feeling the non-linear timeline, and honestly, the way they push the racial themes and feminism felt a bit forced to me. That being said, the actresses are absolutely STUNNING and did such an incredible job! I didn't exactly picture Emma Watson when I imagined Meg, but she actually nailed the role. My one big gripe with the cast is that they used the exact same actresses for both time periods. You'd expect to see some aging, right? Since the girls are supposed to be around 12 to 16 at the start, but the actresses look like they're already 20. Especially Amy—she's meant to be the youngest, but even when she's supposedly 12, she sounds like a chronic smoker! (Kidding, obviously, but seriously, there wasn't a hint of a child's voice there). Timothée fit the role perfectly, though he looks a little too old standing next to the girls, especially later on, since he's supposed to be a young adult. It also bugged me how they stuck to the book word-for-word in some parts but then totally veered off in others; whenever they improvised, it just threw me off. Specifically, the scene where Jo meets the old gentleman felt off, and they completely skipped the part where Meg defends her John. Plus, the romance felt forced during the quiet moments and was missing exactly when it was needed most. The movie was visually gorgeous, though! 😁

I just walked out of the theater. I'm only halfway through, and honestly? It’s a total snooze fest. Everything feels superficial and dull, and those big "emotional" beats feel completely unearned. I managed to grit my teeth through an hour, but then I checked my phone and saw the runtime is 135 minutes. Hard pass. I'm heading home to watch Vertigo with Elizabeth Taylor just to recover from this

Uuuuuuu Ma daaaj sutra

Seriously though
I'm getting ready for tomorrow

Well, honestly 😲

I usually don't do half-measures, but I just had to get this off my chest

Personally, I thought the movie was a total disaster

The acting was rough for me—even Meryl wasn't hitting the mark, though Saoirse was alright
I wasn't super familiar with the source material since it's been a while since I read the previous adaptations, so I was actually pretty hyped for this

But man, what a letdown. It felt incredibly naive to me, and the performances were hit-or-miss at best (and Laura Dern isssss)

And people are praising the costumes? I don't get it??????

I definitely wouldn't recommend this to anyone

P.S. I'm actually a huge fan of romances and "girl power" movies, but this was a massive disappointment

A pleasant little film. 🙂

I wasn't particularly fond of Laurie. In my opinion, the actor is simply too young for this role; he comes across more like the sisters' younger brother than anything else.

The non-linear plot felt unnecessary.

Regardless, it serves as decent entertainment and food for thought. 🙂

Honestly, there were way better movies directed by women last year. This one? It was just some mediocre, performative feminist nonsense.

It honestly just drives me up the wall when people try to force this stuff down our throats. At the end of the day, the quality of the movie is the only thing that should matter. Why should someone get a nomination just because they check a box for gender or race if they didn't actually earn it over the other nominees? It’s just not right—it feels like blatant racism and misandry wrapped up in a neat little bow.

I am signing onto this 100%.
