Jason Campbell70 said:Not staying off the throttle after you've already lost control and slid off track due to your own mistake?

Exactly.

The hardcore fans just don't get it—they think he cut back onto the racing line because he drifted through the grass, but the real issue is that he floored it while his tires were still covered in turf and dirt. It’s a clear error. He deserves a penalty—even if it's just the smallest one possible.

Print this out, it'll make some decent toilet paper...

From here on out, any attempt to save a driver's life or prevent a crash should be met with a penalty. Come on, stewards, just standardize the rules already so we can finally have some "fair" calls for once.

Oh, Charlie, they just won't let you rest in peace...

A racing driver actually needs to hit the brakes, in case you hadn't figured that out for us.

Sebastian Vettel deserved this win. It was stolen from him by three idiots in the stewards' room who should be handed immediate pink slips from their positions.

In all my years following F1, I have never seen anything quite like this.

I was just asking—I wasn't blaming you (though an apology is still deserved, since you really didn't do anything!) 🙂

I’ve been scrolling through this thread, and it's honestly wild how almost everyone spotted Maxov's massive mistake—and his clear intention to dive into Kimi—yet today, in a virtually identical situation, nobody seems to see the same thing from Sebastian Vettel.🤷

I mean, come on, man. This guy crosses TWO FULL LINES and gets—get this—a warning.😵
The reality is that some people are getting scrutinized over every little thing while others get a free pass for everything—it’s totally inconsistent!
Someone really needs to shake things up around here. If they don't kick these clowns out of the cockpit, this whole sport is going to tank, if it hasn't already.🤦

Good grief, what a bunch of clowns.

I’d be absolutely mortified if I acted like that—and it hasn't even been a full year yet!

I think I'd be embarrassed to act like that—especially since it hasn't even been a year yet.

Yet they just ignore everything and stick to their script about how poor Sebastian Vettel was robbed today. 🤣🤣🤣

1. The excursion off the track was handled as clumsily as possible, avoiding a collision.
2. They easily could have collided.

The only question left is whether this warrants a five-second penalty or not. Regardless, the exit was incredibly sloppy. Even players on Gran Turismo are two hundred times more precise than that. xD

That wasn't an intentional exit from the track; it was an uncontrolled slide back onto the circuit, and there simply wasn't any other way to react.

Unless, of course, you were under the impression that Sebastian Vettel should have executed that move more slowly—which I highly doubt you were.

Gary Palmer8 said:Regardless, you've got Senna and Lewis Hamilton... The only way Schumacher is considered the GOAT is if you're a "hardcore" Ferrari fan who thinks today's penalty was totally unnecessary...

Are you talking about the massive PR machine used to hype up Hamilton as a superstar? You might see that kind of bias in a VB poll, but anywhere else in the world, it's a stretch.
As for today’s penalty, judging by what people who actually live and breathe Formula 1 are saying—people way more invested than us on this forum—it seems like everyone is actually rooting for Ferrari. 🙄

Sure, but timely and precise braking? That’s what separates the pros from the amateurs. 👍

In my view, both Sebastian Vettel's penalty and Maxov's move in the Suzuki were mistakes.

Look, speaking as someone who plays GT Sport at an elite level online, if you ask me, that move was just sloppy. Sorry, but it’s the truth.

At the end of the day, I don't really care whether he gets a penalty or not. I'm just calling it like I see it: that was incredibly messy execution.

Unless, of course, you're assuming Sebastian Vettel should have played it safer, which I suspect isn't your take.

To reiterate—with a few slight adjustments for today's situation—your own words:

mellowtiger83 said:I've watched that Sebastian Vettel vs. Lewis Hamilton duel about a hundred times now, and it’s pretty hard to conclude that Sebastian Vettel isn't being an idiot.
In the case of Lewis Hamilton, a five-second penalty is laughable because this was a reckless move; even on Sebastian Vettel's onboard camera, you can see the intent—and I emphasize *intent*—to swing back into Lewis Hamilton's line specifically to block him from overtaking at any cost.

…

I don't follow who the stewards are or what on earth happens to make them turn a blind eye to stuff like this, handing out a mere five seconds for such blatant intent.

...

Honestly, either give him the penalty he actually deserves, or the drivers should stage a protest and refuse to race while he's on the track—much like that one time in history when several drivers refused to drive while Patres was competing.
If you ask me, Patres stayed clean and focused on racing in the years following that.

Sebastian Vettel deserves nothing less than the kind of thrashing Eddie Irvin received back when he thought he was being clever.

I would find it quite embarrassing to fail this spectacularly, especially considering not even a year has passed.

Listen closely: Max had total control over the car and was intentionally defensive; Sebastian Vettel wasn't even in the running.

If that’s how you view the situation, then honestly, you might as well just pack it all in.

He stepped on the gas—meaning there was clear intent—so that penalty is a hundred percent justified.

Nobody over on Sky even bothered to bring up Japan 2018—you know, that absolute disaster where things weren't even fair for five seconds?

Honestly, what a blast—and I’m not even talking about the race itself. Just sitting here reading all this absolute nonsense and everyone tearing each other apart? That’s easily going to be the highlight of my entire night.
