Here’s a bit from IndyCar 2018—back when Max Verstappen pulled the same move Sebastian Vettel did today. I'll just drop three posts here, one right after the other, since they basically tell the whole story:
Quote: El Toro As Gary Palmer8 said:We’ve said it plenty of times before—nothing is going to change until someone actually pays the price because of Max Verstappen.
It looks like we were wrong—about that.
Even if someone were to get hurt—which I suppose is unlikely—nothing about Max Verstappen's position would change.
Andy Jazz—I guess. said:It seems like Max Verstappen isn't learning anything—it's almost as if these penalties don't even phase him. He managed to screw over Sebastian Vettel in China just to finish ahead of him, and now it looks like Kimi Räikkönen might have taken a hit too, since he seemed significantly slower after that.
I wonder where they tucked away those extra pit lane penalties or stop-and-go calls—back in the day, it felt like you'd get hit with them for much smaller mistakes than what we see now, I guess.
Roodonja said:The issue, I suppose, is that Max Verstappen is essentially there to spice up the show—to drive up the viewership and the revenue—and as long as that remains the case, he’ll keep doing exactly what he’s doing.
