Troubleshooting 5.1 surround sound via audio receiver on PC

So, here’s the deal—I used to have two HDMI ports on my GPU, so I’d just plug my monitor into one and my audio receiver into the other, and everything worked perfectly. Now, I’m stuck with just one HDMI port for my monitor (the rest are DP 1.4 and DVI), and suddenly there's zero sound. Here's the kicker: I’ve got an HDMI port on the motherboard too, but neither the video nor the audio is working through it. How can I get both running at the same time—ideally keeping things on HDMI? Drivers are all updated and good to go...

Look, if you actually have an AV receiver sitting there, the simplest fix is just to run both your PC and your monitor through it using HDMI cables. Alternatively, you could link the receiver directly to your graphics card via HDMI and then plug your monitor into the card using a DVI or DisplayPort connection instead. I'm gonna try hooking the receiver to the GPU via HDMI, then I'll run the monitor off the GPU using DVI-D since they share the same slot. Should be fine, right? My only real question is what's the point of that HDMI port on the motherboard if I can't get any audio out of it.

The HDMI port on your motherboard is tied directly to the integrated graphics. You'll likely need to dive into your BIOS first just to enable it—unless, of course, you're unsure if your PCI card and integrated graphics can even play nice together at the same time—and once that's sorted, you'll have to head into your audio settings to actually route the sound through it.
