Alternatives to LogMeIn?

Lately, LogMeIn has been giving me nothing but grief. It keeps cutting me off, claiming I'm using it for commercial purposes, which is a total lie since I barely ever use it outside of helping out a few friends or family members. Apparently, this isn't just me; plenty of people are running into the same wall and jumping ship to other apps
I heard there’s a solid free option called Remote Desktop Connection
I downloaded it to test the waters, but the setup is a nightmare. I honestly can't figure out how to actually connect to another computer
There are some tutorials on YouTube, but none of them actually go into enough detail to be useful. They aren't helping at all
Is anyone here actually using it? If so, maybe you could walk me through it and help out future users too

I don't use it myself, so I can't say for sure, but I took a quick look at their setup guide (hxxp://remotedesktopconnection.com/products/QuickSupport). It looks like they list a private IP address—the kind you use on your home network—instead of a public one. If you follow those steps exactly, it's not going to work over the Internet.

Anyone waiting for remote help needs to provide their public IP address.

Another thing: you might need to "open a port" or set up "port forwarding" on your router and computer firewall to allow an incoming connection. High-end routers and software usually handle this automatically, but if you're using basic gear or have extra security layers, you'll likely have to do it manually.

I’ve messed around with AnyDesk a couple of times before. It’s handy because you don't have to go through a whole installation process just to see if it actually works.
To get connected, you just use an ID, though instead of typing in a password, the person on the other end has to manually click to let you in. It handles file transfers too, and honestly, there isn't much setup required—it just works.
They do have a commercial version out there, but I haven't bothered testing that side of things yet.
