Unfortunately, that’s exactly why we see this constant stream of insults from the same handful of users; they know there's no one around to hand out sanctions.
You can probably see it yourself—that same small group of people (just take a look at my ignore list) write basically everything on the Alternative board solely to insult, launch ad hominem attacks, and harass anyone who doesn't share their views.
Not a single one of their posts is an exception.
Let's just hope the admins decide to take a look eventually. 🕺
@Mark Cruz15/">@@Mark Cruz15, even though you don't usually operate that way, it really isn't cool to back someone up when they're being abusive just because that person happens to disagree with you or anyone else. 👎
We all know this forum is supposed to be a place for exchanging ideas.
So why is it so unacceptable to you that someone might think differently than you do?
On what basis do you feel entitled to label someone else's opinion as dangerous propaganda and then support the verbal abuse of that individual?
Maybe someone else feels the exact same way about your opinion, but they still respect it enough not to resort to insults.
Ah, the old free speech argument, is it? 🤣
Just because you hold a certain view doesn't mean it's sacred. Or equal to someone else's view. It's not equal, it's not objectively true, and it's certainly not correct.
Your opinion is perfectly fair game for questioning and scrutiny.
And if—or rather, when—it turns out that your views and the advice you peddle lead to a resurgence of infectious diseases that kill immunocompromised people and young children (just look at the death tolls from measles outbreaks in Romania and Mexico), then, in the absence of any moderators, it becomes absolutely necessary to call out and mock such a charlatan and morally/intellectually bankrupt individual.
Why is it necessary? Because of the decent, frightened people searching for information who stumble upon various "Ibrahims" and similar intellectually and morally
shambolic types, whose rambling nonsense and fraudulent advice actually put lives at risk.
The aforementioned
free speech warrior (🤣) is the author of unforgettable claims, like saying raw food cures everything, or acting as an apologist for ideas like the notion that carrot juice is molecularly almost identical to human blood, or those things about miracle apple seeds, claiming eating about 10 seeds a day (raw, obviously) can cure someone of cancer within a few months. And then there's his brilliant counterpart, Slađana Velkov, a slightly more intense lunatic whose
incredible statements you can find here.
So, why are we so harsh on charlatans?
I'll try to explain it simply:
Encouraging people (directly or indirectly) to not vaccinate children against infectious diseases that have been (nearly) eradicated by vaccines is...
a) rushed and/or
b) malicious.
Before kids even hit the age where they’re allowed on any official vaccination schedule, they're out there being exposed to stuff like the flu. The only thing standing between them and a nasty bout of sickness is herd immunity—basically, having enough people vaccinated so that an outbreak can't actually gain traction.
The more people opt out, the higher the risk of a full-blown epidemic. Just look at the death tolls from measles outbreaks over in Romania and Mexico.
So, when I say we're commenting here to try and protect kids from the whims of lunatics, that’s exactly what we’re doing. Look, I’m under no illusions that anyone on the anti-vax side is going to suddenly have an epiphany and realize how wrong they are. No. By mocking their nonsense and debunking those syphilitic ideas peddled by the forum's resident anti-vaxxers—people who are basically just following the lead of influencers like Jenny McCarthy or other loudmouths meant to scare terrified, well-meaning parents—we show those proponents (Ethan Barrett22 and his crowd)
THEY DON'T have any real expertise (they barely have any knowledge at all),
THEY AREN'T saviors (they're mostly just saving their own wallets),
THEY AREN'T among the enlightened few who know "the truth,"
THEY AREN'T experts (honestly, some of them seem to have serious mental health issues), and
THEY LACK any scientifically grounded evidence (they don't understand science; they're actually afraid of it).
What they actually possess is a massive messiah complex, a sense of unearned superiority, pure malice, and they are textbook examples of the Dunning-Kruger effect.
Their actions are capable of causing catastrophic damage to immunocompromised individuals and small children.
That’s what we’re fighting against, and that’s what we’ll keep fighting. We’re fighting ignorance, misinformation, bad faith, and this modern trend of elevating the typical
village idiot to the status of a truth-teller.
We are fighting for the kids and the vulnerable.
If you ask me, we really ought to > the vaccination thread and move it over to the Alternative Medicine section, because right now it's just a breeding ground for deranged anti-vax rhetoric. It’s becoming a lot like the Raw Food thread.
The next logical step should be purging these "career" anti-vaxxers from this forum. This isn't about free speech; it's about public health. It's about basic hygiene, for crying out loud.
Which, if I do say so myself, is exactly what the moderators should be doing (and there we go, moving straight to step three, nice and fast).
