Best cleaning software?

Hey everyone... does anyone have any recommendations for a solid program? Ideally something I can grab via torrent if possible, just to give my laptop a bit of a deep clean. It’s not exactly dying on me or anything, but Google Chrome keeps freezing out of nowhere, and I end up having to force an End Task more often than I'd like... annoying. I've already got CCleaner, some anti-Malware stuff, and Norton installed, but maybe there's something else... just looking for a good tool I can let run in the background to scrub things down and get rid of whatever junk is hanging around. Even though I try to stay on top of it with what I have now... anyway, thanks

CCleaner is pretty decent, though I’ve never been a huge fan of Norton—I think Panda or McAfee are better bets. For anti-malware, I guess Malwarebytes is fine, but if you need a backup, SpyHunter is the only other thing that comes to mind. It actually caught some junk for me that Malwarebytes missed...

It really comes down to how you have CCleaner set up. You also gotta consider what else is running when Chrome freezes—because let's be real, Chrome eats through RAM like crazy...

If you want an all-in-one fix, try the trial version of Tune Up Utilities. It’s enough to patch up a few things before you just uninstall it—then maybe grab it again in a few months if things start acting up again. 🙂

Have you run a disk defrag lately? Give Auslogics Disk Defrag a shot—it might help...

I used to run McAfee, but man, it absolutely trashed my laptop... everything just felt so sluggish after I installed it. So I went back to Norton, which has never given me any grief. I might give SpyHunter a shot though. I don't usually have anything else running when Chrome freezes up on me—it just suddenly hits a wall. At first, I was convinced it was a Flash issue, so I uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome, but nope... here we go again. It’s annoying because I’m so used to it being snappy... maybe I'll try that Tune Up thing again, can't really remember if it actually did anything for me last time. I do run Auslogics Disk Defrag every month, though...

So I ran a scan on my C drive right when I booted up my laptop and... nothing. Zilch. No threats found, which feels weird because everything else is acting super glitchy. Like, whenever I hit "Restart," the thing just shuts down, the lights go on, but then it stays dead. It won't actually reboot itself. I have to force it off manually before I can even try starting it back up again... it’s such a pain. Plus, my Chrome has been dragging like crazy lately, which honestly hasn't happened before. Just feels off

Have you tried reinstalling Chrome?
For example, if my Chrome starts acting sluggish, I’ll run a speed test and see that my download speed is sitting at maybe 1 Mbps when it really should be closer to 12, so you might want to check that too.
Download some anti-malware and run a scan, or try HitmanPro.

Honestly, CCleaner is plenty if you just want to do some classic system cleaning. Just a heads-up—don't bother installing things like tune up utilities or any of those other "optimization" gimmicks. They aren't worth the space, and frankly, they’ll probably just end up slowing down your laptop instead of helping. I'd suggest running a full scan with Malwarebytes, and you might want to grab AdwCleaner too, just in case it picks up any junk. If things still feel sluggish after all that, you might be looking at a failing hard drive. You can always download CrystalDiskInfo to check the S.M.A.R.T. status—it'll give you a pretty clear idea of whether your drive is actually dying or not.

...and honestly, don't even think about touching "SpyHunter." I’ve seen way too many people on various forums wrecking their entire systems because of that junk—they ended up having to wipe everything and reinstall Windows just to fix the mess it made. 😢 ...plus, you won't find it listed on any legitimate software site or any actual list of reputable antivirus programs.

I'm assuming you know how to actually use CCleaner effectively, because it's quite handy if you do. If you aren't entirely sure, here is a link to a little collection of portable programs.

I've noticed people mentioning that useless piece of garbage "SpyHunter" in this thread. To put it bluntly, just forget that program exists and you won't have any issues.

From what I can see, AdwCleaner is already the standard recommendation, so you might as well round things out by adding some extra ad and Malware protection to your browser. AdBlock handles those annoying advertisements, and I'd also suggest adding Bitdefender TrafficLight to block unsafe websites.🍿

Between Optimizer Pr0 and that whole company, there's just an absurd amount of garbage software floating around. It's almost hard to believe.

Honestly, just stick with a combo of CCleaner, Malwarebytes, and Avast free. That’s pretty much all you need. Everything else is just bloatware designed to slow your system down and invent fake problems just so they can trick you into buying their overpriced subscriptions. If I were you, I'd just back up my files, wipe everything, and do a fresh install of Windows. Then, just stick to what I told you from the jump. You don't need any of those "PC doctor" optimizer scams or whatever other garbage they're peddling these days.
Regarding Chrome, seriously, just ditch it and grab Firefox instead. Chrome is basically just a massive data-mining machine built to track your every move so they can spam you with ads and—who knows what else...
Like my buddy mentioned above, you absolutely have to throw an AdBlock extension onto your browser too.

hm, I thought using SH was fine for a quick scan after running Malwarebytes, but does anyone have a link where I can actually read up on why people say it's bad?

Back when I didn't know the first thing about software, I installed that damn thing and hit scan, then clean—only to find out the next time I tried to boot up, my computer was totally trashed and Windows was completely broken.

Malwarebytes is a decent enough tool, but personally, I stick with Emsisoft anti-malware—it’s given me much better 👍 results when it comes to actually spotting and cleaning out all that junk...
