Issues logging into my Microsoft account

Hey everyone, I’ve been logging into my Microsoft account using a picture instead of a password—mostly because my little kid was messing around with my laptop and changed things, so I just left it that way. It worked fine like that for over a year, but recently when I powered up my PC, the picture login didn't show up at all; it just defaulted to asking for a password. Of course, the kid has no clue what he set, so now I'm stuck trying to find a way back into the account since I have a ton of important files in there.

Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Any idea why the picture login would suddenly disappear and be replaced by a password prompt?

Just a side note... about a year ago, my laptop had a bit of a run-in with a cup of coffee, so I ended up doing a hard drive swap. Ever since then, I've been seeing that "Activate Windows" watermark, which is weird because the software is genuine and I just swapped the hardware. I started wondering if maybe the picture login vanished because the system doesn't think it's original anymore, so I tried running a removal tool, but now whenever I try to do anything or install something, it asks for an administrator password that I don't have.

Anyone out there able to help me out?

It shouldn't be much of an issue. You can boot the computer from a disc that has a password reset tool built in. It should only take a few minutes, assuming nothing goes sideways.

So you moved the hard drive to a different laptop? Windows has built-in mechanisms designed to detect hardware changes, which is why it's asking for reactivation. Since you're using genuine software, it shouldn't be a problem. You can just call the Microsoft support line here in the US, and they'll walk you through the activation code over the phone.

In any case, these aren't massive hurdles. Everything can be sorted out pretty quickly.
