Out of pure curiosity, I decided to experiment with a USB flash drive—following the specific instructions found on this website.
Well, after meticulously following every single step outlined in those directions, I’ve hit a wall—I can no longer access any data on the drive, nor can I successfully format it.
Whenever I attempt to open it, a prompt appears insisting that I format the device first; however, once I click through to format, Windows simply returns an error stating it is unable to complete the process.
Does anyone here happen to know what might be causing this technical hiccup, and more importantly, how I might go about fixing it?

Try following the steps on that site again. If that doesn't work, you're looking at two possibilities. Either the instructions aren't being followed to the letter, or that USB drive has officially kicked the bucket.👍

I can hook you up with a USB drive at a good price.

@ironseal8/">@@ironseal8 I've got those 16GB sticks available for $17—you'll get the receipt and a full warranty with them 🤣

My price is right in there somewhere,

So I don't really see the point of this thread.

I mean, sure, you're just trying to save your USB drive. But as far as you're concerned—would you actually be getting a brand-new, factory-sealed USB stick and a computer?

Not the account, but the drive itself is brand new. I've moved about 30 of these units already. It’s a solid brand. Completely reliable.
Got about 50 of these sent to me by mistake along with some software. Can't seem to find a way to get rid of them.

It couldn't have kicked the bucket just yet—it was working perfectly fine right up until I tried that clean command.
Do you think it might be worth trying to format it through DOS?
Does anyone happen to remember which specific commands I should be typing in? I seem to have completely blanked on them.

He mentions a price somewhere, but there's zero warranty involved. 😁

I mean, seriously, why would anyone buy from you at some "whatever" price when they could just go buy it with a full manufacturer's warranty?

I keep telling him—look, I live in Washington, D.C., where there’s a tech shop on basically every street corner. Can you imagine the headache if I had to wire him the cash just to have him ship it back? I'd be stuck waiting days for it to arrive. It’s much easier this way—I just walk into a store, grab what I need, and I'm done. 😁

Now, after doing everything by the book, the thing won't let me write anything to it or even format it.
Every time I try to open it, it tells me I need to format it—but when I actually click "format," Windows just gives me an error saying it’s unable to do it.
Anyone know what's going on or how to fix this mess?

Open up Disk Management. See if the USB shows up there and try initializing it manually.

Look, a guy can be totally honest and ship your order within twenty-four hours, but that stick could still have a factory defect that makes it die after a month.
