So, since we were told that the "Where to Advertise Private Rentals" thread is strictly for landlords—and given the moderator's comment about checking who actually owns property (though how they do that is anyone's guess), plus admin L3go's note that my posts shouldn't be deleted but just moved to the "Offtopic topic American tourism" thread—I’ve got a question about how things are being handled over there.
The thread is still flooded with random off-topic chatter about everything under the sun, even though there are better places for that stuff. There's hardly anything actually about where to list ads.
Right now, everyone is debating guest reviews for landlords.

What I'm wondering is: how is it that a user who isn't even a landlord is jumping into this debate? Why weren't those posts moved to the Offtopic section?
The rule was explained (even if it wasn't added to the original post like I asked)—only landlords can post in "Where to Advertise," and even if it gets off-topic, those posts don't get deleted or moved.
Basically, if you aren't advertising, you shouldn't be part of the rental talk OR the off-topic talk in that specific thread; you should be posting in "Offtopic topic American tourism."
So why is the exact opposite happening right now?
(Honestly, the rules should just be written clearly and followed consistently.)

I'm not dropping names because I don't have a problem with any specific user. I'm sure the mods know exactly who I mean, and they really didn't need to verify if this person is a landlord, considering they already admitted it themselves:
I'm just a bystander here, not a landlord...

My bad, just realized I doubled up on that one.
Didn't mean to, the forum just glitched out.

Since I haven't heard back from any moderators, maybe an admin could clarify why the rules—if we're even following those unwritten ones—seem so inconsistent? It feels like some people get blocked from posting while others are totally fine to jump in.
(Just a quick reminder: my post got nuked simply because I wasn't a property owner, even though I didn't break a single rule regarding Booking.com)
Take admin L3go, for example. In his post, he mentioned that moving posts is okay, but deleting them isn't. So, why does it feel different now? Why are posts sticking around even when they aren't from owners? (I've scrolled through about 23 pages...)
Also, why not just put these rules on the first page so everyone is on the same page, instead of just applying them whenever someone feels like it?
Look, I don't mind following the rules, even if they seem a bit weird or illogical. If that's the rule, I won't post. I'm not complaining about that.
But I am wondering: why does it seem like everyone else gets a pass?

To make things simple
- can I actually jump into the "Where to Advertise Private Rentals (Part III) [READ 1st POST]" thread now? Since the first post doesn't say anything about banning people who aren't renting out property, and since other non-owners are posting there without getting any warnings or having their stuff moved.
It’s pretty obvious that if such a rule ever existed, it’s gone now.

Rachel Jones8, regarding that accommodation advertising thread—aside from us moderators, there was only one other woman participating who wasn't actually an owner. We didn't delete or move her posts because she kept things constructive; she actually helped out the owners quite a bit with VAT issues since that's her area of expertise...
Whenever you jumped in there, though, you just kept circling the drain—asking the exact same questions year after year. A few owners were patient enough to walk you through it—like folks over at Marriott or Hilton, for instance—but you just kept looping back to the same spots, which kind of defeated the whole purpose of the thread.

Why can't I just get a straight answer to a simple question?
Besides, what you wrote (and I’m telling you again) isn't true. It feels pretty malicious to keep repeating the same inaccuracies over and over.
Why do we have to keep going in circles just because the facts are being twisted?
I made a post on that thread about Booking.com and it got nuked, with the excuse that I can't post because I'm not a host. Since then, I haven't really touched that thread... except recently by accident because I totally forgot about the rule. (That one was about a Booking cancellation and an email exchange between a guest and a host)
All my other posts—about sales tax, seasonal rates, etc.—were all in the right threads and they're still there.
The posts from the last few pages are all about guest reviews, which has nothing to do with the thread title, just like how sales tax has nothing to do with it... honestly, most of the posts on this thread aren't even on topic anymore; it looks more like a group chat than a discussion about where to list properties.
Since these debates actually get interesting, I’d love to jump in and contribute to the conversation (even if I'm not a host), rather than having to dump my comments in the Offtopic section. When I do that, nobody ever replies to me... because when I show up on the main thread, it's like I fell from Mars. People act surprised that I keep posting here when I'm actually just responding to things said in the advertising thread.
It’s pretty impractical and makes zero sense. Especially since everyone else seems allowed to talk, and I don't see why I'm the only one being blocked. Plus, what you said isn't right—I wasn't interrogating anyone (I was just asking because I was curious), nor was I posting stuff meant to annoy people or acting with bad intentions. My posts were perfectly polite and followed the rules; maybe they were just too long or boring for some people.
So, I'm asking to be treated just like any other user. If the rules on the first page don't explicitly ban non-hosts from posting, then let me post without having my comments deleted or moved and getting flagged. If I actually break a rule, treat me the same way you'd treat anyone else. No one gets warnings or flags for going off-topic on this thread, not even for insulting or slandering, even if maybe only one out of ten posts actually fits the topic. If that's the case, it should be fair for everyone to get the same treatment.

I actually had a helpful, solid suggestion for a new thread, but since that got wiped too (it was in the Offtopic section), can I post it here or send you a DM before it disappears again?
Since I can't start a new thread with the same title—"where to advertise"—to actually focus on advertising (instead of spinning this into a fourth volume of the same thread where everyone just chats and goes off-topic), I had an idea for a related topic that might be super useful for hosts.

Anyway... 🙂 I really hope we can stop going in circles. I'd just like to participate in the forum like everyone else without being singled out just because I don't rent out property. At least not while it's allowed for everyone else and isn't listed in the rules.
Thanks. 🙂
