Underrated movies from 2016.

I can’t shake the feeling that this year—especially leading up to autumn—has been a bit of a letdown when it comes to quality films actually making it through our distribution channels and hitting the US box office. Things are finally picking up steam just in time for festival season, but honestly, it feels like the summer blockbusters completely missed the mark.

That's why 5 recommendations from this year deserve way more attention than they actually received, if you ask me.

It’s the same story year after year. There are countless films that just end up stuck in the shadow of massive blockbusters, basically waiting for someone to actually notice them.
In my opinion, the ones that were unfairly overlooked this year are
Certain Women
L'avenir (which probably wouldn't even have its current buzz if Isabelle Huppert wasn't starring in it, and honestly, I think it's better than Ell)
The Fits la
La pazza gioia

You could've at least mentioned WHY they deserve more attention... just so we aren't just throwing out names without any context or a schedule to follow...

Hunt for The Wilderpeople is easily one of the best out there, but honestly, it makes sense why they don't throw it around as much in theaters... I mean, it's a local gem from New Zealand, right? Even though the director already made a name for himself with that hilarious mockumentary "What We Do in the Shadows," this story is just on a whole different level. It's way better...

I’m a fan of Hunt for The Wilderpeople—not exactly a masterpiece, but honestly, it has the best soundtrack from 2016. 🙂
I'll definitely remember it for that kid's incredible performance, too.

Elle (2016)

Viva Las Vegas. Seriously, this was such a killer French Thriller, and man, it’s just so different from the usual stuff you're used to seeing... it totally tricks you into thinking it's following a standard formula when it really isn't, haha! But honestly, I better stop talking right now before I accidentally spoil something for you guys.
