Two accounts on the same thread...

So, this user is running around with two different handles.
They use one handle to jump into a specific discussion—let's just call it topic xy.
Then, after a while, they just stop posting in topic xy altogether.

Here's the deal:
- How much time needs to pass, how many posts need to go up, or what else is required before that same person can hop back into topic xy using a totally different handle? And obviously, this assumes they aren't just replying to themselves or trying to pull some shady stunt to mislead everyone else on the board.

There isn't a hard line drawn in the sand here, and honestly, if we were being strictly by the book, there probably shouldn't be one at all... I mean, if we're talking about a discussion thread that’s been active for years, it seems a bit excessive to go after someone for posting under a different handle back in 2014, assuming they haven't already been hit with a permanent ban or some kind of partial restriction.
But then again, pinpointing the exact boundary is always a bit of a gray area.
If I were that user, I’d just reach out to Nica or one of the moderators over in the Politics section to let them know they plan on using a new handle instead of the old one, and depending on how things shake out, they'll likely get the best guidance on how to proceed...

I'd suggest any of the moderators step forward here, then coordinate amongst yourselves to let the user know the decision... There's really no need to pull the admin into this. As long as the whole mod team is on the same page regarding the activation of the second profile, we can avoid anyone accidentally handing out a sanction just because they weren't kept in the loop.

Generally speaking, retiring a current nickname and activating a new one for a specific topic can happen right away without much of a wait. Of course, it really depends on the individual circumstances and the specific guidelines our moderators follow in their handbook. But as a rule, it shouldn't be anything you have to wait long for, nor is it an issue...

Precisely. A user simply needs to coordinate their posting schedule with the moderators using a different handle. The key is ensuring there is no collusion.
