Google Drive storage issues

I’m paying $2 a month for 100GB of Google Drive space.
My account dashboard clearly shows I've only used about 7GB out of that 100GB limit.
But when I try using the Google Drive Windows desktop app to upload an 80GB folder—mostly photos and videos tucked into subfolders—it keeps throwing a "not enough storage" error at me.
Anyone have a clue what's going on...
On another note, I tried looking into Amazon S3, but I can't even get past registration because I'm stuck waiting for a verification callback that never comes... any experts out there who might be able to help? 😃

This might sound a bit silly, but did you double-check the phone number you entered when signing up for Amazon? S3 is my go-to for primary storage, and if memory serves, during registration, an automated voice—actually quite pleasant—calls you and tells you which digits to punch into your keypad 🙂 I didn't run into any issues at all. Which type of phone are you trying to use? A landline? I actually handled mine via a landline. If you need a hand navigating S3, just shoot me a PM and we'll figure something out.

I tried calling both my cell and my landline, but I'm getting absolutely nothing on either end. Now I'm just trying to open a support ticket to see what happens. Just curious—what would it even run me to get 100 GB a month... 🙂

Well, just crunch the numbers based on this info. It all depends on which data center location you pick, plus you gotta pay for storage separately from the bandwidth and stuff...

Man, they really overcomplicated this one. All I need is to move about 100GB to the cloud for a backup and download stuff once in a while—I'm assuming the transfer is included then...

When you're putting it on, sure. When you're taking it off? Not so much. It's all right there in the fine print...

Opened an Amazon ticket since their callback system is totally broken.
In the meantime, I finally sorted out my Google Drive issue after a decent chat with their support team.
Basically, I was trying to sync a network drive through a Windows TV box—which only has 16GB of storage to its name. Their tech guy told me that if I want to sync a folder, I need enough local disk space to match whatever I’m uploading to the Drive. Makes sense, I guess... logic is a thing.
I ended up bypassing it by logging out of the Google Drive desktop app and just running the upload directly through Google Chrome—skipping the local sync folder entirely.
Uploads seem fine for now, let's see how it holds up over the next 24 hours... 🙂
