Greetings!

My sister tried booting up her HP laptop and—out of nowhere—it’s just a black screen. The charger light is on, the power light is on, the fan is spinning, but the CAPS LOCK key is blinking incessantly—just flashing on and off—and there's this red light on the network indicator.

I’m trying to figure out what could have died inside this thing—because I attempted to boot it without the charger and, predictably, still nothing but a black screen.

Nothing has ever been messed with inside, and since it hasn't been opened in a while despite being used for about a year, the warranty is already gone.

THE LAPTOP RUNS Linux.

@darkowl72/">@@darkowl72, it's blinking more than six times—which means we're looking at either a battery failure or a faulty power adapter. What's the move?

Pull the battery out and unplug the power adapter.
Hold down the power button for a full 20 seconds.
Plug the adapter back in and try booting the laptop without the battery installed.

If that doesn't work, just try borrowing a charger or take the laptop to a shop or repair center that has one on hand to test it out.
