It was never realistic to expect some massive, overnight leap in performance. These engine tokens don't mean a thing; you could hand twice as many over to Ferrari, and the gap between them, Honda, and Renault would still look pretty much the same.
In my view, Honda made the biggest strides with their power unit compared to last season, but let's be honest—it’s still nowhere near being a serious contender...
Broadly speaking, most of this lap time improvement is down to the tires.

Ferrari picked up a little ground, sure, but not enough to justify anyone getting actually excited about it.

Yeah, right—Toro Rosso is going to wipe the floor with them. 😁

In German, "komisch" can mean funny, sure, but more often it translates to "weird" or "strange"—which is exactly what Seb was getting at. Staged fiasco or not, Vettel clearly wasn't exactly over the moon. Honestly, I just wish he could stir the pot a little more and mess with that Mercedes-Benz duo; they’ve become incredibly grating lately with all that "we're untouchable" nonsense they keep spewing.

One of their top engineers—Michael Schumacher—spent a few seasons tweaking things behind the scenes, and now we're seeing the payoff. They're the best right now, and they earned their spot at the top.

It’s not fatalism, it’s just reality...
Look, I don't have anything against Mercedes-Benz dominating. They put in the work and the money, so they deserve it...

Yeah, sure, it gets a bit boring to watch sometimes, but that's not even the issue...
What actually drives me crazy is this absolute nonsense with the rules—qualifying regulations, testing bans, engine development freezes, and all those other ridiculous restrictions...

Personally, I’d much rather see Fernando Alonso driving for Mercedes-Benz and racking up those championship titles instead of Lewis Hamilton.

Honestly, Bernie Ecclestone needs to step up and let someone sensible take the reins—someone who would actually shake things up. Imagine if they just threw the rulebook out the window and gave us a choice: either go back to the classic V8 atmospheric engines or stick with these current V6 turbo hybrids with unlimited development allowed mid-season. Just let them loose and see who survives the chaos! ☕

Just thinking back to those VN Brazil races in 2007 and 2008...

Don't talk nonsense...
2010 and 2012 weren't any worse...☕
Actually, they were way better than 2007 and 2008. Back then, you only had two teams at the top with zero chance for anyone else,
whereas in 2010 and 2012, you consistently had at least three teams capable of winning, with a fourth popping up occasionally.

Besides, even that massive dominance from 2000-2004 wasn't actually bad.
The only real problem is getting garbage rules like this where dominance is basically baked in, leaving the rest of the field with practically no shot at breaking it just because of the rulebook.
F1 hit the skids the second everyone started whining about budget cuts while costs were simultaneously skyrocketing. 🙄

You're telling it like it is. 🙂

Get out of here, man. 🐔

Set off an alarm. Then just coasting through the morning with ☕

Honestly, looking back, those years in 2010 and 2012 weren't exactly any better—if anything, they were just as rough.☕
Honestly, those years were actually way better than 2007 and 2008—and I mean that sincerely! Back in '07 and '08, you basically had just two teams sitting at the very top of the food chain, which didn't leave anyone else with even a prayer of catching up. It felt a bit stagnant, if you know what I mean? Having more parity and a real shake-up in the standings makes things so much more interesting to watch.
Back during those 2010 and 2012 seasons—if memory serves me correctly—you consistently had at least three teams that were genuine contenders for the win, and even a fourth one would pop up every now and then to shake things up.

It really looks like the car's design took a massive nose dive back in 2009—honestly, things just seemed to go downhill from there.

Looking back at the timeline—it’s a bit sobering, isn't it? We’ve had seven seasons pass by, and honestly, only two of them truly felt like a thrill ride. It makes you want to take a little trip down memory lane, though—specifically back to that stretch of 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. Now, those were some seriously engaging years.

Seven seasons later and we've only had two interesting ones... just look back at 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008.

Rules...
It’s hardly shocking when one team dominates right after a massive rule change...
just like it isn't shocking when the other giants catch up after a few seasons of stable rules and you end up with a pack of equal teams fighting at the top...

What's weird is having a huge rule shift and then seeing development completely locked down before the first race even starts—that's how you get this absolute garbage we're seeing now...
And honestly, it feels like it'll never end.

Look, there's zero issue with Germany dominating. That's not the issue at all; it's a totally normal, natural part of Formula 1.
The real Problem is these moronic rules introduced under the guise of "cost-cutting," which have basically guaranteed this total dominance,
and nobody has the guts to admit they were played. Everyone was being selfish, thinking they'd be the ones to benefit, and now here we are.

Now, after that qualifying nonsense, Christian Horner and Toto Wolff are busy throwing themselves into the ash, calling it stupidity and saying it needs to be scrapped... because scrapping it doesn't hurt their bottom line one bit. 😉
But funny enough, it didn't occur to them to scrap the Power Unit rules—well, not to Wolff, anyway, since they suit him perfectly. And Horner would give us the exact same speech if General Motors or Red Bull Racing were in Mercedes-Benz's shoes. 😍

Well, of course they’re selfish... that was Niki Lauda's take on Sky today—basically saying that when you get all the team principals in one room, nothing ever gets settled because everyone is just looking out for their own skin.

At least they can actually agree on something when it comes to qualifying.

Yeah, look, it’s just part of the game when one team dominates for a stretch. Nothing shocking there. The real issue—the actual —is that when one team owns the podium for years on end, people just stop watching. It isn't really Mercedes-Benz's fault, though; it’s more about the regulatory mess that
mentioned. Fewer viewers basically means less money flowing into the sport.
In my view, Formula 1 started its downward spiral when they banned fuel flow, which pretty much killed off the tactical chess matches—one of the few things I actually enjoy about this sport.
Then you had that whole tire disaster, followed by the jump to V6 engines, and worst of all, those restrictions on development and testing.

Personally, I don't see such a massive Preoblem with the engines themselves—it's more about these development restrictions, the RPM caps, and the fuel flow limits. It all seems just plain idiotic to me.

swifttiger75 said:Why be so fatalistic?!! It’s not like the Mechanics suddenly lost their edge out of thin air. One of their top engineers (Michael Schumacher) spent several seasons fine-tuning that car race after race, and now we’re seeing the results. They are the best, plain and simple. They deserve to be exactly where they are right now.

Look, I get it—constant dominance can get a bit tedious, but honestly, this setup actually makes enjoying Formula 1 much deeper. It’s relaxed; you aren't constantly stressing over who’s going to lift the trophy at the end. I’m genuinely curious to see how the duel between Palmer and Magnussen plays out, how Honda handles themselves during the race, or how young Max is going to step up to the plate.

And eventually, the rulebook will change again. That resets all the advantages, which might lead to one of those wild, incredible seasons, or maybe we’ll see a repeat of 2009.

All in all, I can hardly wait for those red lights to go out tomorrow morning so I can sit down with my son and watch the start of another Formula 1 season.

And of course...

It’s an absolute embarrassment for Ferrari today... honestly, considering how much capital they’ve poured into this and all those lofty promises they made... they’re trailing behind Germany by a full second. Once Honda and General Motors find their footing, Red Bull Racing and McLaren are going to eat them alive for breakfast. The rain during practice made it painfully obvious that their chassis and aero aren't even in the top five right now. Sure, they have a killer engine—but frankly, I have my doubts about whether that power is even legitimate when you look at their digital telemetry. Shady business!

Wait, where are you getting that from? I'm pretty much 100% certain that's not how it went down. They didn't get the new engine until Canada, and the aero updates didn't show up until Miami.

Don't embarrass yourself. It'll take Honda at least another five years to get back on track. Renault might be a different story, though—they actually have a solid history of winning. What kind of results has Honda really seen in Formula 1 or other motorsports lately?

Let's refresh everyone's memory here... They had the worst engine of the V8 era. They got slapped around by Chevrolet in IndyCar. They struggled in MotoGP. And to top it all off, they were a total disaster during the V6 era. Aside from some late 80s luck, Honda’s run in Formula 1 has been nothing but a series of letdowns.😁

I wouldn't go quite that far as calling it a disgrace, though it definitely feels like a huge disappointment. Last year they managed three wins, but this year? It doesn't look like they'll see the winner's circle once.

Well, they’ve gone and scrapped this qualifying format...
I can't help but wonder, what on earth will they decide to change next? 🙂
