Nothing surprising here, you basically just hit the nail on the head regarding soccer; those comparisons don't really hold water, I suppose. For young Max to even be mentioned in the same breath as those guys, he'll probably need to eat a whole lot more cornmeal first.
We've seen plenty of bigger talents mess up in Formula 1 before.

The chassis integrity held up fine. There wasn't any massive deceleration, and nothing struck Fernando Alonso directly in the helmet—nothing like what happened to Felipe Massa or Justin Wilson.

Mercedes was just too dominant; using tires that were twice as old and much slower, they still outpaced everyone else. Ferrari is closing the gap, but they aren't quite there yet if they want to fight for titles. Honestly, the race itself was pretty mediocre—I was hoping for more action and overtaking maneuvers.
It would have been even worse if Sebastian Vettel had opted for the medium tires, especially since he couldn't even pull away from Nice on the super softs...

How was he supposed to pull away when he had to make those tires last at least 15 laps? On top of that, they weren't even fresh; they were used. That’s a total Ferrari fail right there.

If Mecka really found it that easy to overtake, why didn't he just jump Max Verstappen on the SS while running with Hanilt? Or go after Nico Rosberg or Kimi Räikkönen?

It seems like the fame finally got to Max Verstappen after all. I really thought he was immune to it, but given how much everyone has been feeding his ego lately, I guess it was inevitable. It’s giving me major Daniil Kvyat vibes—you know, that whole "the second season is always a massive reality check" thing...

Besides, Max didn't choke at all. Last year he scored more than double the points of his teammate—who, by the way, is also an incredible talent.

When was the last time Fernando Alonso actually went big in a crash like this?

I mean, I’m thinking back to the USA in 2003—and let's not even count that testing incident, shall we?

So there it is. It’s just like that 2003 race in the USA, all over again.

When you step back and look at the big picture, I really think this season is going to turn out much better than people expect. If Ferrari can just stop messing up their strategy—and if Kimi Räikkönen doesn't end up breaking the car—things could get pretty exciting.

Lewis Hamilton was really struggling to find any pace with the AlphaTauri, and Nico Rosberg couldn't even put a dent in Kimi Räikkönen's lead during those first ten laps or so.

Since we're looking at a brand-new design, Ferrari actually has quite a bit of room to grow—whereas Mercedes-Benz is starting to hit a ceiling because they're essentially just refining an evolution of an old concept.

If Ferrari manages to nail their pit wall calls and sorts out those reliability issues, beating Mecama won't be nearly as easy as everyone thinks.

If only the Bears could actually get their starts right, we might actually have an interesting race on our hands.

and they could have easily watched what everyone else was doing, too. Instead, they completely blew it—honestly, you couldn't trust their strategic calls as far as you could throw them.
For almost ten years now, their strategy has been an absolute disaster. I mean, at this point, it would probably be better if they just sent a bunch of drunks to sit on the pit wall instead.

It’s weird that Vettel was losing more time on softs than he was on mediums. 😕
And even weirder—Rosberg’s first lap out of the pits was identical on both softs and mediums, but his second lap was way faster on mediums than on softs. 😵

It honestly looks like the Bear is struggling with softs, while Ferrari can't get anything out of the mediums...🤔
