Greetings!
I am hoping there might be someone here capable of helping me troubleshoot a minor issue.
Almost every single minute—it is actually happening right now as I type this—my active window loses focus. My cursor simply vanishes, and nothing I type actually registers. This isn't limited to my web browser; it happens when I am working in Microsoft Office as well.
It is incredibly frustrating. There are moments when I am in the middle of a long thought, only to realize a minute later that I haven't actually typed anything at all, or perhaps just two or three words. I have attempted to dig through various settings and options, but I am completely out of ideas...
In fact, this has already occurred four times while I was writing this very post.

Any suggestions?
Thank you!

Have you tried running a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware yet? I guess you should probably download it, get it installed, run the updates, and then just kick off a full scan.

...it happens all the time, honestly. You’ll be gaming or working, and suddenly the mouse cable just gives up the ghost right where it meets the base. One tiny fray, one centimeter away from the mouse itself, and boom—your cursor starts flying off toward the corner of your monitor.
At that point, you've really only got two moves: either bite the bullet and grab a brand new mouse, or get some tweezers, crack the thing open, and try to shorten the wire by rerouting it inside.

And honestly, it’s totally possible your PC is just ancient and lagging so hard it doesn't even register you hitting the keys.

Thanks for the replies.
The computer is brand new—I just picked it up—and the mouse and keyboard are fresh out of the box too. Everything is new.
It’s happening to me and my colleague as well. I'm using a USB port for the mouse, but even with that green connector, it simply won't work.

1. This is a desktop, right?
2. Is the screen non-touch?
3. Give me the exact mouse and keyboard models:
4. Check Device Manager—are there any yellow or red warnings, question marks, or X's next to anything?
5. What specifically does Device Manager list for the mouse and keyboard?
6. Have you installed any specific drivers for the mouse and keyboard?
7. Which USB port are you using—one on the motherboard or one on the case?
8. Are you using a USB extension cable? If so, what's the spec printed on it (1.0, 1.1, 2.0...)?
9. Since it’s failing with the green connector, are you testing it with the same USB mouse and green adapter, or a different mouse?
10. Can you test the mouse and keyboard on another computer, or try a different set on your current PC if you have one handy?
11. You said the mouse is USB, but how is the keyboard connected?
12. Also, check the USB ports in Device Manager. See which ones are installed (1.x, 2.x, or 3.x) and if there are any errors, similar to what I asked in step 4.

1. It is a desktop computer.
2. The screen is not touch-sensitive.
3. Mouse model: Logitech RX 250
Keyboard model: Logitech K120 for business 4.
4. In Device Manager, the mouse shows as: HID-Keyboard device (no yellow icons or red Xs), and the keyboard shows as: HID-Keyboard (no yellow icons or red Xs).
6. Yes, Microsoft drivers are installed.
7. I am using the USB ports on the motherboard.
8. I am not using a USB extension cable.
9. I am using the USB connection. I am not plugging the purple connector into the keyboard, nor the green one into the mouse, because those connectors simply do not work.
10. We all have identical computers and mice, and we are all facing this same issue.😁
11. Both the mouse and keyboard are USB-connected.
12. Here is what is shown for the USB ports in the image:

Man, seriously... everyone saying they have the same issue? That’s not good. If these are new machines and still under warranty, why haven't you called someone to fix this yet?

It could still be multiple things, but I don't get why the PS/2 ports for the keyboard and mouse aren't working at all. In my long career, I've never run into anything like this. The fact that it's happening to all of you is insane; it basically means:

1. All the machines have motherboards from the same bad batch.
2. Every single mouse is part of a faulty shipment.
3. There's some massive compatibility issue between the Logitech RX 250 and the version of Windows you're running.

RE:|

1. Go to the Logitech website, register your gear, and look for tech support. They might actually know what's going on.

http://support.logitech.com/en_gb/pr...ouse#knowledge
http://support.logitech.com/en_gb/co...0000003L8fSAAS

2. Even though you shouldn't have to, try installing Logitech Setpoint on one machine—it's Logitech's app for controlling mice and keyboards. Just make sure you grab the exact version meant for your specific Windows build.

http://support.logitech.com/en_gb/pr...mouse#download

(The Download section, right under the mouse image)

3. Check this out; Logitech actually admits there's an issue here. If this is it, call whoever supplied your computers and demand they swap out the keyboards and mice because you can't get any work done. And regardless of this headache, stick with Logitech next time. Don't let them sell you some cheap junk; stick to Logitech and avoid Genius—it's just cheaper, lower-quality stuff.

Thanks. So, you think this is an issue with my mouse and keyboard?
The thing is, they work fine, but every single minute—actually, even more often than that—the window I'm typing in just loses focus. Everything I've written just vanishes into thin air. 😁
Then I have to click back into the text box just to pick up where I left off..
It is enough to drive anyone absolutely crazy.

Did you guys end up trying what Joshua Garcia3 suggested in his post? Just as a precaution—maybe scan the machines for malware, especially since you're seeing the same symptoms on multiple devices. I'm guessing they're all on the same network?

I did. That was my first step, but everything came back clean.
Since I initially noticed this happening within Microsoft Office, I suspected the auto-save settings might be the culprit. I even increased the interval from 5 minutes to 30 minutes. However, it turns out that has nothing to do with the issue at hand.

And what’s the value of an opinion from the guy who sold you the machines in the first place? I mean, did anyone actually ask him if they were being advertised as reliable?

It’s entirely possible that some other background application is "stealing" focus from your active window—which is honestly such a headache! I did a little digging online, and apparently, that Adobe auto-update tool can be a real culprit behind this exact issue. If you happen to have that installed, maybe try disabling the automatic updates or just kicking the app out of your startup list altogether.
You might also want to play detective using your Print Screen key to see which specific app is grabbing control. Here’s the trick: if you hit Print Screen on your keyboard, it captures your entire screen to the clipboard, but if you hit alt + Print Screen, it only grabs the currently active window. So, the moment this happens, immediately hit alt + Print Screen and then paste it into a Microsoft Office Word document so you can actually see what window was captured. That should give you a massive clue as to what’s causing the glitch.
Also—just a thought—Sticky Keys could be causing issues too, making it seem like you're accidentally hitting Alt+Tab without realizing it. You can toggle that off by pressing both Shift keys at the same time.

Jonathan Mendoza17 makes a valid point there. I actually ran into a nearly identical headache myself back when I was wrestling with my wireless connection software. Once the connection finally stabilized, I'd be presented with a choice regarding

Minimize
Close
Don't show it

If I just went ahead and picked the first option, Minimize, everything would descend into the exact kind of chaos Linda Wood is describing.
It eventually dawned on me that the trick was to hit Close—essentially shutting down the wireless utility window entirely—even though the program never explicitly signaled that it was active or even had focus.

My thanks to everyone for the assistance! This tip worked perfectly. It turns out Netgear was the culprit behind this entire headache. I never would have suspected that. Thank you so much! Now we can all get back to work without the hassle.
