I don't really get the obsession with this movie. For a topic like this, it feels way too long and drawn out, plus it's just a million times seen story before 🤷 sure, it's pretty to look at, I guess. But beyond that, I don't see what makes it so special.

If I compare it to other releases from 2015, this one—as mediocre as it actually is—manages to scrape its way to the top. That doesn't necessarily speak to the film's actual quality, but rather to how underwhelming the rest of the 2015 cinematic landscape turned out to be...

There’s definitely some heart in this one. But honestly, every single time I see that actress on screen, she comes across as being about as expressive as a slab of concrete... just totally lifeless.
The rest of the cast? Absolutely stellar. You've got an incredible group of Americans around her—and that Italian guy was just phenomenal in his role. Seriously, everyone was killing it except for her... she just sat there like a flat pancake in the middle of a deep conversation.

To guy she’s dating? Honestly, he’s the weakest link in the entire production, like a poorly written subplot that just drags the whole thing down.

His accent was grating, and honestly, his whole vibe was just way too soft—he had this constant, pleasant little smile that made it feel like he wasn't actually invested in the woman at all. I could have bought it if he were playing some high-society prestige character, but right from the jump, it didn't land; when he was calling out to her, there wasn't even a hint of that desperate, restless tension you'd expect from someone pining for someone miles away.

All in all, I don't see what sets this apart from any other cookie-cutter romantic drama cluttering up the streaming services.

That's interesting... To be honest, I thought the guy was repulsive at first too, and I was fully expecting this to be total garbage. But as the movie went on, he actually started growing on me. I was actually pretty pissed off during that scene where she's second-guessing things with the local guy, while the Italian dude was being absolutely wonderful to her from start to finish.

The local guy is clearly just playing a part, while that Italian actor... he’s easily the weakest link in the whole production, just completely unconvincing.

His posture was just... painful to watch. He spent the whole time slouching, with his pants practically pulled up to his armpits—I know that was supposed to be "fashionable" or whatever, but seriously, could they not tone down the style choices? And poor Eilis looked tiny next to him, even though she’s actually quite tall at 5'6"!


Honestly, the lead actor Emory Cohen and the leading lady Saoirse Ronan have absolutely zero chemistry. It’s a real shame because when you can't root for the main couple due to a total lack of spark, the whole thing falls apart. On the flip side, that connection was definitely there with Domhnall Gleeson playing Jim Farrell. That’s why I was actually pulling for Eilis to stay in Ireland and expose her husband, even though I knew deep down it was a lost cause and she’d end up heading back to the USA. This entire romance subplot felt poorly executed to me... some parts were just unconvincing, rushed, or totally out of character.. 🤷

Oh, come on... I couldn't disagree more. I just watched this for the first time, and it’s not that they lack chemistry—it’s practically sparking everywhere. Every time they’re in the same frame together, I just melt. They are so incredibly sweet and irresistible, you could just eat them up. 😍

As far as the movie goes, I found it absolutely lovely and genuinely cozy. I went in with zero expectations and was completely caught off guard. There’s just something special about it, and I enjoyed every second. Generally speaking, I can't stand romance and tend to steer clear of those overly sentimental, pathetic tear-jerkers, but I don't think this falls into that cliché category, and I'm glad I gave it a shot. Interestingly enough, their dynamic was actually my favorite part. The lead actors' charisma definitely carried the whole thing. Saoirse is stunning here and absolutely brilliant in her role—a true rising star in American cinema! 👍 Everything is beautiful and deeply moving. The soundtrack was fantastic, too. Great costume design and production value. And that guy of hers, that Talijan... I can't even describe how precious he is. He’s just so tender, calm, kind, and sweet. And that smile? The way he talks to her? God, bless him...😍 The ending ties the story together perfectly. They could have squeezed in maybe one more minute of them together, but even as it stands, it was wonderful.
