Whenever I try to download a webpage using any browser, nothing loads. Most often, I am met with this error: Server not found. Mozilla Firefox can't find the server at www.google.com.

When there is no downloading happening, all websites load perfectly fine.

I am running the final version of Windows 10 Pro x64. It was a clean installation, not an upgrade. Interestingly, I encountered this exact same issue on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 as well.

For security, I use Norton Security, the latest version, along with Malwarebytes Free. To test things out, I disabled all three of these programs, but the problem persists.

My modem is a Linksys Router.

My ISP is AT&T.

The download speed is 8 Mbps.

Wait, this is the final version? Are you living in the future or something??? 🤣🤣🤣
Honestly, you could just throw 6000 MB of antivirus on there if you wanted, but really, Malwarebytes Free and Windows Defender are more than enough for what you need....

What kind of download are we even talking about here, like is it happening right inside the browser or what?

I've got a feeling the issue might actually be with your Linksys Router, have you tried giving it a quick reset yet? And does the download work if you try using Microsoft Edge instead?

As far as I am aware, Windows 10 Pro Build 10240 is the final version that was released on July 29th of this year.

I simply use a web browser. I navigate to a website where I can find a download link for certain software, and that is all there is to it.

I hold a negative view regarding Windows Defender, as my past experiences with it were quite poor.

Regarding your question—"did you try resetting it? does it work through something like Microsoft Edge?"—I am afraid I do not understand. Could you perhaps explain that more simply? I have absolutely no idea how networking works. It is all completely foreign to me.

Since you’re seeing this same issue across several different OS versions—different Windows setups, actually—I’m leaning toward it being a router problem. It seems like once a download kicks off, it just hogs the entire connection, maybe hitting 100% capacity, which I guess means no other packets can get through while it's running.

Maybe try reaching out to technical support over at Comcast.

I reached out to AT&T and they informed me that everything on their end is functioning perfectly—meaning, they claim the issue isn't with them.

Running both Norton Security and Malwarebytes at the same time isn't really a great idea. Both programs run in the background and launch right when you boot up your PC, which can cause them to clash. Honestly, after you finish a scan, it might be best to just uninstall Malwarebytes and only use it when you specifically need it. You can definitely keep Malwarebytes alongside your main antivirus, though.
That’s good to keep in mind, but I don't think that's what's causing the trouble you're having here.

Very well, I shall proceed as you suggested regarding Norton and SAS, even if I suspect those factors shouldn't actually impact my specific issue. Thank you.

Daniel Cruz28 said:From what I can gather, Windows 10 Pro Build 10240 is actually the official final version that dropped back on July 29th of this year, right?

So, you just go straight to your browser, right? You hunt around until you find some website that actually has the direct download link for the software you're looking for, click it, and boom—you're basically done! Is it really even that complicated?

Honestly, I’ve got such a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to Windows Defender because, man, I had one absolutely nightmare of an experience with it once!

I honestly have no clue what you’re getting at when you ask me things like, "Have you tried resetting it?" or "Does it work through something like Microsoft Edge?" Could you maybe break that down a bit more simply for me? I swear, I don't understand a single thing about networking—to me, this whole technical setup is like trying to read a foreign language without a dictionary!.

Nah, that’s just the RTM version, which basically means it's a stable enough build for manufacturers to start shipping it out to everyone. Windows 10 is going to be getting constant updates for years to come, so really there isn't some "final" version that just stops, if you know what I mean? But hey, I totally get where you're coming from!

So, like, let me ask you this—when you're actually downloading torrents (assuming that's even something you're doing), does that become an issue too?
Honestly, Windows Defender is the built-in antivirus that comes right along with Windows, and if you ask me, it’s more than enough to get the job done! I actually run Malwarebytes Premium alongside it, which I managed to snag for free, and the best part is that it isn't some sketchy cracked version either. 🙂

So, Microsoft Edge is basically Microsoft's new browser, right? And about that router thing—you know, that little box sitting in your hallway or wherever you tucked it away, the one covered in blinking lights where the phone line plugs in? That's what we're talking about!

I honestly think the issue is coming straight from your router because it seems to be choking out your entire connection whenever you try to download anything! Have you ever dealt with that? It’s like the hardware just can't handle the load and collapses under the pressure. You should probably try a hard reset, so grab a pen or maybe a needle and find that tiny little button on the back—it looks roughly like this:
image
You just gotta hold it down for a few seconds, you know? Once it kicks back on, there's a chance you might have to go through the whole hassle of re-entering all your settings again, though honestly, maybe you won't even have to worry about that... I mean, take me for example—on my new AT&T setup, everything just works automatically because they push the configuration straight to me, whereas with my old Linksys Router, I was stuck manually typing in all those credentials every single time I had to hit the reset button!
Or just tell your ISP to send you a brand-new router!

Just to make things a bit clearer for everyone here, a router is basically just a traffic controller, and honestly, if you look at what the name actually implies, it’s pretty straightforward—it simply directs the flow of data, kind of like how a GPS handles your route on the highway!

Daniel Cruz28 said:I actually gave those steps a shot and honestly, everything is running smooth as silk so far. I’m pretty sure we finally nailed the fix.

Thanks man.

No surprise there, right? It’s totally normal for things to start lagging once you've been running them for a while...
Whatever, happens twice.
