Here’s what I’m working with:
Asrock M3A UCC
AMD Athlon II X3 440
500 GB WD Caviar Blue SATA II HDD
6GB Kingmax DDR3 1333MHz
400W Corsair CMPSU-400CXEU
XFX PCI-E ATI Radeon HD5770 875M 1GB DDR5 HDMI

So, my motherboard just kicked the bucket. Any ideas on a decent replacement?

Thanks! 😍

You get what you pay for. 😬 The Gigabyte GA-970 DS3P is definitely a best buy.🙂

With the components you're currently running, you don't even need to go that expensive. Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2

At least this one, $33 though it’s pricier, gives you 8 SATA ports (including two SATA3), USB 3.0, and even an IDE connector.

He doesn't really need to go that expensive, but I guess that Gigabyte board mentioned first is probably the best bet if he wants any future-proofing (you can swap in a beefier CPU later, though putting one on those weaker boards isn't exactly a great idea)

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking too. You don't strictly need a Gigabyte board for an AMD Athlon II X3 440, but if you're already shelling out for a motherboard, I’d rather drop an extra $20 to know I can plug in whatever I want down the road.🙂If the budget allows for it, obviously.

It gives him plenty of room to swap in a beefier processor down the road. Sure, he could technically run a weaker chip on it now, but I wouldn't recommend it if he wants to avoid headaches later.

+1

Since he’s essentially staking his future on this, there's no way he stays glued to that Athlon forever. Besides, the motherboard itself is an incredible value for the price; if he feels like pushing it later, he could even pull off some decent overclocking. Of course, that all depends on whether he’s actually got the budget for it.
