Back in 1983, a group of childhood friends decided to pull off the crime of the century by snatching one of the wealthiest men on the planet—the owner of the Heineken empire, played here by Anthony Hopkins. This violent kidnapping goes down right in broad daylight on the streets of New York City. It’s a deep dive into the meticulous planning of the heist, the fallout, and the eventual downfall of the kidnappers who targeted Alfred Heineken, ultimately resulting in the largest ransom ever paid for a single individual. The whole film is based on true events.

Is there anyone out there who doesn't appreciate a solid kidnapping flick? When you factor in a stellar cast delivering a gripping true story about a tycoon like Heineken—whose brand is a global staple—and one of the most massive kidnappings in history, you’re left with nothing but anticipation for a film that looks incredibly promising.

I am. It’s a decent enough flick. There aren't really any massive, jaw-dropping moments that are going to stick in your brain forever, but watching how they actually pulled off the reveal was pretty interesting enough

The movie’s been floating around torrent sites for ages. Nothing to write home about.

It’s basically a big corporate plug, though it does manage to sneak in a decent moral lesson.

A bit cold, but worth a watch if you have the time.

Watched it yesterday... I’m with the guys on this one... the movie is just mediocre, something about it feels off. It’s watchable, though. Tony Soprano is a legend—he really shines when he plays those characters who mentally mess with everyone else.

It couldn't have been all that long ago; the film was released back in 2015.
Perhaps you are thinking of the Dutch version, because this one is absolutely dreadful...

I’m honestly stuck on whether to call this a total disaster or just a massive letdown,
since I wasn't actually there to witness the real thing, so I can't really say if they strayed from the script or actually stuck to it.

Rutger Hauer was the only thing making this remotely watchable, so I think I'll definitely be skipping the remake...

I think I caught this one at some film festival years ago, but if I recall correctly, it was pretty terrible. I’m pretty sure there was this scene toward the end where the kidnapper tries to intimidate him even though he’d already been freed—he just bellows "boo!" or something equally pathetic. It was easily one of the most cringeworthy moments I've ever sat through in a movie. 🤣

The movie is a bit like a light lager at a summer BBQ—easy to drink, but pretty weak and loses its fizz fast. The acting is solid enough, I guess, but the whole thing feels more like some casual family TV night where you aren't really looking for anything deep.
