I just checked the roster, and out of the 17 players, 9 are locals from Qatar, and the rest
are foreigners. I actually thought there were even fewer home-grown guys than that.

fairly handled the Poles. Sure, the refs made two or three questionable calls
that went their way, but that's just how it goes at every single
championship—they tend to favor the host nation.

We basically got a front-row seat to how much of a disaster the Polish team is right now,
and even some amateur squad couldn't outsmart them.🙂

I'm with you on this one. Qatar pretty much brushed the Poles aside; they were clearly a class above them.
It was my first time watching them too, and I had the same thought—that since they're the hosts, someone just dumped a ton of cash into the program and called it a day.
But man, these guys play well, and they've got that octopus Saric in goal, who was pulling down nearly 50% saves today!!!
