Honestly? The best ones are simply the ones that actually work. But let's be real—there isn't a single brand out there you can rely on 100%.

Why is that?

Because every single third-party cartridge has to emulate the Epson microchip. And Epson designed their microchip in a way that just doesn't provide enough juice for that kind of emulation.

Which means all the replacements for that specific model carry an extra little battery just to handle the emulation process.

Now, since entrepreneurs are buying these cartridges by the shipping container, who knows how much charge is actually left in those batteries? You might have plenty of ink, but zero power. Especially during the winter months.

So, you buy a four-pack and one of them fails. What do you do? You think, "Well, I put fresh ink in the printer and now it won't even turn on. The printer must be broken." So what's next? You go out and buy a brand-new printer. !!!! You think we're playing games here??

If you want to be smart about it, grab the printer, take it straight to the shop, and hope for the best. If you get lucky, you can head over to an Atlantic store where they'll install Colibri continuous ink tanks for you, and they won't charge you a dime until everything is up and running perfectly.

Of course, even Colibri cartridges rely on a battery that’s eventually going to die. But you can usually swap it out yourself for a few bucks$3.25 at a local watch repair shop.

If you’re looking for those specific ink cartridges—the 1281, 1282, 1283, or 1284 models—here is my suggestion
www.toner-outlet.com

The price comes out to about $4.00 per unit, which I suppose is a pretty solid deal, and they should be able to get them delivered right to your doorstep within a day or two.
