TV Politics - PBS thread about the inauguration being deleted

I’m looking for some clarification here: what was the reasoning behind deleting the thread regarding the coverage of the presidential inauguration on PBS?

I hadn't seen this before, otherwise I would have gotten back to you sooner.

To put it simply, the thread wasn't deleted; I just moved your comment over to an existing discussion (since you were making references to PBS in general), while any off-topic or problematic remarks were removed.

There really isn't any reason or benefit to having a separate thread in the Television section when there is already an identical topic over in the Politics section.

I appreciate the response, though I find myself somewhat dissatisfied with it. We were discussing one specific program, yet the Television subforum is already cluttered with dozens of threads regarding individual shows. By that logic, any discussion about a single broadcast could just as easily be moved to the general threads for PBS, FOX, or ABC, depending on which network aired it.

The Politics section is inherently more political in nature; when looking at this specific thread, I was expecting a debate centered on the professionalism of the creators and the guests involved. While drawing a hard line is difficult—since you'll certainly find discussions about television professionalism within the Politics section, just as you'd find political commentary within the Television section—there is a distinction.

However, this overlap occurs across all our media-related threads, specifically those covering programs with a political bent. It is virtually impossible to draw an arbitrary boundary and say, "this belongs in Television, but this is too political for that section," because politics and media are inextricably linked.

So, my stance remains unchanged: I still believe this should have remained its own distinct, standalone topic.

This was just one time thing. It’s not a weekly show that warrants its own dedicated thread. That’s the main difference between this topic you started and something like Sunday at 2 or Pyramid.

Since you even mentioned in your own comment how embarrassing this was for PBS, along with a few other similar points, I thought it made more sense to move the conversation over there.

I honestly don't see any issue with discussing the lack of professionalism from PBS anchors or their inappropriate reporting style within the PBS thread. 😉

I trust the moderators in Politics won't have any trouble with people discussing this from various angles, provided the debate remains respectful and fair.

I'm with you, silentmaker51. The inauguration isn't some rerun series, and it’s definitely not a topic that needs its own dedicated PDF thread. It's plenty enough to just chat about it on the main PBS thread.
