Hey there!
I’m looking to pick up a new workstation—mostly for architecture-related stuff. I'll be doing plenty of drafting in Revit, plus some light 3D modeling (nothing too crazy, just SketchUp and Rhino).
A buddy of mine put together a few different configurations for me to look at. Here’s what’s on the table:
1.
Intel Core i7-4770
3.40GHz / 8MB Cache / 4 Cores
Intel C226 chipset
8GB (2x4) 1600MHz DDR3 non-ECC memory
Can go up to 32GB DDR3 ECC memory
Integrated 4-channel SATA 6Gbps RAID controller (RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10)
2TB SATA III (7200 rpm) hard drive
8x DVD±R/±RW Dual-Layer drive
19-in-1 Card Reader
1GB Nvidia Quadro K600, PCI Express, 1x Display Port, 1x DVI, 1x DP-DVI adapter, 1x DVI-VGA adapter
2.
Intel Core i7-4770 3.40GHz / 8MB Cache / 4 Cores
16GB (4x4) 1600MHz DDR3 non-ECC memory
2TB SATA III (7200 rpm) hard drive
8x DVD±R/±RW Dual-Layer drive
19-in-1 Card Reader
2GB Nvidia Quadro K2000, PCI Express, 2x Display Port, 1x DVI, 2x DP-DVI adapter, 1x DVI-VGA adapter
3.
Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHz, 8MB Cache, 4 Cores, Turbo (4.0GHz)
8GB (2x4) 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC memory
2x 1TB Serial-ATA III (7200 rpm) hard drives
16x DVD±RW Dual-Layer drive
AMD Radeon R7 250 with 2GB memory, 1x DP, 1x DVI
Since picking hardware isn't exactly my specialty—heaven knows why I thought I could do this myself!—I was hoping you guys could recommend which one would be the best bet? Also, if there are any similar swaps in the same price range—or maybe even some cheaper options with comparable performance—let me know! Like I said, I'm not doing super complex modeling; it's mostly AutoCAD and Revit.
Oh! And I was also thinking about cutting costs on a few components so I could squeeze in an SSD. That makes sense, right?
Thanks a bunch!
