Alright, listen up: I just picked up a new rig, and I'm looking for some honest feedback from you guys...
GPU: PowerColor R9-280X-OC
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K
Cooler: That absolute garbage Intel stock cooler...
PSU: FSP Raider 550W Silver
RAM: 8GB Kingston HyperX Beast Dual-Channel CL11 2400MHz (overclockable)
Motherboard: ASUS budget junk... (yeah, I know, don't start)
Monitor: 40-inch LG 1080p TV😁 😁 😁
Now, folks, here’s the deal. First off, does anyone here actually have experience with these ASUS boards? To be honest, the BIOS caught me off guard; it's definitely more of a modern UEFI setup, which is surprisingly detailed, though it's a total mess to navigate. I ended up grabbing this specific board because it was the cheapest Z87 option on the market, and since I’ve got an Intel Core processor, I need that headroom for overclocking. On another note—and I already know this system is going to crush everything on Ultra settings at 60fps @ 1080p—but you have no idea how much I need to grab a decent CPU cooler ASAP. I've been eye-balling the Corsair H50, the Antec H20 650 liquid coolers, a Deepcool Ereboss, the Arctic Freezer, the i30, and of course, the legendary Cooler Master Hyper EVO 212+. So, I'm all ears now, and I am waiting for your recommendations.
PS: Who are you guys rooting for? 🐔 ☕
Edit: Just so we're clear, the motherboard has a 6-phase VRM (with an aluminum heatsink). Don't go thinking I haven't considered whether too much current will be pulling through the 12V rail on the board, especially once I start pushing the overclock.
Edit 2: If any of you know anything about those massive air coolers that end up crowding out the RAM slots, please chime in. I was looking into it but couldn't make sense of the clearance issues, and I really need to ensure my RAM stays in dual-channel mode using slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4.
