Hey there,

I'm stuck in a bit of a configuration loop, so I figured I’d throw this out there and get some unbiased takes from you guys.
Basically, I'm just looking to buy the tower itself. I've already got my peripherals, and I'm sticking with my 23" Dell IPS monitor for the next few years—unless it dies on me, obviously. Resolution is 1080p, naturally.
The rig is primarily for gaming (though anything else I do will probably fly on a setup like this anyway).
So, I've cobbled together three different builds, keeping them strictly under $1458 and not a single cent over (and please, if the reason isn't blindingly obvious, don't even ask why I picked that specific number).

I'd love your input on which one to pull the trigger on. Right now, I'm just playing League, but I've got Warhammer 40,000 on the horizon, along with maybe a few other titles, though those two are the big ones for me.

Anyway, enough rambling. Here are the options:

1
- ASUS Prime, LGA 1151, A970, D3, S3, USB 3.0, A
- Intel Core i7-4770K
- EVGA GeForce Series 80 550W PSU, XFX-P1-550S-XXB9
- Seagate Barracuda 500GB 3.5''
- MSI GeForce GTX 970, 3GB GDDR5, HDMI, DVI
- KINGSTON ValueRAM DDR3 SDRAM Non-ECC (4GB, 1600MHz(PC3-12800), Single Rank, Unbuffered) KVR16N11S8/4
- Spire Kepler Rev.2 cooler 115X/775/AM2-3/FM1-2
- Corsair ZM-Series mid tower case black, ZAL-ZM-Z1

- Seagate Barracuda 500GB 3.5''

Looking at what I want to play later, I'm a little worried about option 3, even though it'll be plenty fine for now. If there's a way to get similar performance for a better price, feel free to toss some suggestions my way.
With all of these, I'd eventually add more RAM down the road (if I actually need more than 8GB), but with option 1, I'd have to do that almost immediately, which adds an extra $100 to the cost. So, if I won't really need the upgrade compared to option 2, why waste hard-earned cash?

Thanks in advance.

These games aren't particularly demanding, so you could probably just settle on the third option. I guess if you just swap out the graphics card for an EVGA Radeon R9 270, $27 it might be a bit more expensive than the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 750 at Micro Center, but

As far as requirements go, you're looking at a minimum of something like a GTX 660 to run Warhammer 40,000 properly.
And honestly, if you try playing an MMO on a bottom-of-the-barrel rig, you’re just asking for a headache.
The price gap for the EVGA Radeon R9 270 isn't massive, but since it's an EVGA card—and people online have some pretty loud opinions about their reliability—you might end up dealing with a whole lot of nonsense... plus, the performance is just a hair better anyway.
Anyway, thanks for the reply.

First off, just swap out the power supply in that Corsair RM500 and throw in a Cooler Master Hyper 212 instead.

I put together a build with 8GB of RAM, an FX 6300, and an R9 280 for $1471 😬... but if that’s pushing the budget too far, maybe try this.
