The crowning achievement of the multi-talented Tommy Wiseau, the black comedy-drama The Room explores the messy reality of human relationships. It offers a fascinating window into the mind of a man watching his entire world crumble after discovering that his fiancée and his best friend have been having an affair behind his back.
At this point, there isn't much left to say given all the praise—and the inevitable critiques—this film has garnered. It is quite simply essential viewing for any true cinephile. 👍

Honestly, I find it absolutely brilliant how he managed to convince himself—and a good chunk of the people around him—that the film was actually *intentionally* bad. 😁 On the flip side, you have to give him some credit for turning such an absolute train wreck into a legitimate cult phenomenon. To be fair, it was really the fans who built that cult status; even ten years later, screenings are happening every few months and people can recite the dialogue from memory—even though he tried to label it as some sort of "melodrama" or "dark comedy."
At the very least, I hope he’s inspired screenwriters—including those aspiring ones out there—to actually use their brains a little more when they sit down to write.

This is easily one of my all-time favorites. Seeing this just reminded me—I really need to go ahead and order the Blu-ray.

Has anyone actually sat down and read "Disaster artist" yet? Honestly, I was laughing so hard I almost lost it.

No, but I’ve listened to Sesterov’s appearances on Opie & Anthony and on Scheerov’s podcast where he retells those stories. 🙏
For those who aren't in the loop, Greg Sistero—the guy who plays Mark in the movie—wrote a book detailing how the film came together and his own relationship with Tommy. Apparently, the book is a total riot, but you should really try to find the audiobook narrated by Sester himself. He might be a disastrous actor, but he has the most spot-on Tommy impression ever. 🤣

I’m still convinced this whole thing is just one massive practical joke played by a few wealthy guys who dumped some cash into a project just for the hell of it, effectively manufacturing their own little myth. Honestly, it isn't even a bad movie; it's a movie that was intentionally shot poorly.

I mean, I seriously didn't think much of it until I saw on Index that James Franco was filming the Disaster Artist movie, but then I stumbled upon this absolute gem of a flick. 🙏

I mean, nobody takes this flick seriously anyway! If it weren't for how technically "competent" it is—at least when you look at the script and the acting—nobody would even remember it exists...

Plus, the whole backstory of how this thing was made is just wild. Tommy Wiseau is easily one of the most mysterious figures to ever hit the Hollywood scene. That’s why the Disaster Artist definitely deserves some love. Though, personally? I think they should've called the movie Masterpiece first, but sticking to the book title was probably for the best 😁

Honestly, this is pure genius.

I want this movie to win an Oscar so badly, just so we can watch Tommy Wiseau walk up onto that stage and accept it himself.

People over here just don't get it—they have absolutely no clue about the legendary status this movie actually holds.

So, here I am, staring down one of those. I mean, I know all about the movie—I know its reputation and everything—but I’ve actually never sat down to watch it. I just don't get the hype... though, I suppose I should probably give it a look before I finally dive into the Disaster Artist.

I remember being at some freshman orientation back at UT Austin maybe 6 or 7 years ago—I think it was when they screened that movie about the Taxi driver in the lecture hall. That was actually my first time hearing about The Room, and honestly, we had absolutely no clue what on earth was happening on screen or why—I ended up just giving up after half an hour 🙂

I had to bump this thread. It's unbelievable that there isn't even a single page dedicated to this yet—shame on you all! Creating a film where absolutely everything is done wrong is just as difficult as making one where everything is done right. It's a great story full of unexpected twists; I'd give it a 9.5/10, though those sex scenes drag on a bit too long, otherwise it would be a perfect 10/10.

I actually caught this before everyone started buzzing about that biopic from last year. :hipster: Honestly, you’re better off watching it without getting distracted by all those random YouTube clips and other nonsense. I started by checking out the Nostalgia Critic review just to get a sense of what I was getting into...
I still need to sit down with Plan 9 from Outer Space to decide which one I prefer, though I have a feeling they both probably get overshadowed by Deadly Prey.
