The famous Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell stealth-action video game series is finally getting its big-screen moment with a movie adaptation of Ubisoft's hit franchise.

The film will be directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Edge of Tomorrow), with Eric Singer (American Hustle, The International) handling the screenplay. As for the lead role, Tom Hardy (Inception, TDKR) has been cast as Sam Fisher—the elite spy working for the secret government agency known as Third Echelon to take down terrorists.

This project has actually been in the works for quite some time now. Production is currently being led by Basil Iwanyk from Thunder Road Pictures alongside Jean-Julien Baronnet from Ubisoft. On top of directing, Doug Liman is also stepping into a producer role together with his partner David Bartis. If everything goes according to plan, production should kick off this August.

I think Tom Hardy is a decent pick—even if he’s a bit too young to really embody Fisher for me—but let’s be real, he just doesn't have that legendary voice of Michael Ironside. And honestly? That voice is basically 90% of the character's soul. It isn't just about the voice; he’s also a little too young to play this guy. Not to mention he's a British actor playing an American. 😁 Still, a much better choice than Paul Walker, who was supposedly lined up to play Agent 47.

I’m hoping this turns out better than Hitman. I mean, that movie wasn't a total disaster, but it certainly wasn't anything to write home about.

I honestly don't know why this keeps happening to me; I swear I mix up Tom Hardy and Jeremy Renner every single time, haha. I'll start thinking, "Man, I really don't think Tom Hardy is right for the lead role," because I didn't care for his performance in The Bourne Legacy, only to realize—oh shoot—that was actually Jeremy Renner. It happens to me constantly. 😁

I will never forgive Ubisoft. It isn't just that they replaced him, but that they swapped him out for such an underwhelming actor. They should have at least given Fisher a dignified retirement, or at the very least cast someone truly worthy, much like how Koji chose Kiefer Sutherland to voice Big Boss.

That really sat wrong with me too. Though, I personally find Blacklist much stronger than Conviction—so let's just hope they don't base a movie on that sequel. Honestly? I’d much prefer if they stuck to the vibe of the first four games: more stealth, less "run and gun."

He could have easily landed the role playing the guy who portrayed Fisher in Blacklist. Sure, Ironside is the original, but this actor did a pretty solid job stepping into Fisher's shoes. Of course, they'll need to slap a famous name on the movie if they want anyone to actually buy a ticket. Either way, I'll probably watch it.

I mean, it’s Tom Clancy we’re talking about, and I’ve played every single Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell game ever made—they're all absolute gems. My only real question is whether they're going to stick to the established lore from the games or if they're pivoting to an entirely new storyline.
