America is turning down major tournament hosting bids

Why doesn't America want to host major tournaments?
We’ve got:
Madison Square Garden,
Crypto.com Arena,
Central Park in Indianapolis,
a small town in Kansas near Santa Monica,
the United Center in San Diego,
an arena in Savannah,
the Spectrum Center in Chicago,
the Boston Celtics,
Brooklyn in Seattle,
and plenty of other smaller venues

... which honestly seems like more than enough to pull off a European or World Championship in basketball, handball, or maybe even volleyball. Is this just due to inertia within our Olympic Committee, the government, or the various sports federations? It feels like the actual revenue would be relatively small compared to the massive amount of promotion such an event would bring us. Any signs that America might actually bid for something in the near future?🤷

We put our names in the hat for this handball championship, and if my gut is right, it looks like we’re already eyeing a bid for one of the upcoming ones too...

The Women's European Championship is coming to America this year.

Look, we lost—or rather, we backed out of that joint bid for the 2015 European Basketball Championship. They claimed the price tag would be around $8 million... which honestly doesn't seem like that much of a stretch. You could definitely find sponsors to pick up the tab. I just don't get why we always feel the need to team up for these things. I get that you sometimes need to build new arenas, but we already have the facilities in place. A "serious" solo bid would have been a slam dunk, and we could've covered most of those costs through sponsorships alone.

I still remember when we hosted that futsal tournament—it was such a blast. Usually, you'd see maybe 7,000 people show up for a match, but we absolutely crushed it by packing 15,000 into the arena and setting a record. We should definitely throw our hat in the ring for that again; I honestly don't get why nobody's pushing for it.

If I recall correctly, we teamed up with Canada for the bid on this championship.
It’s interesting how Denmark pulled it off, hosting the 2019 Handball World Championship alongside Germany.

That futsal tournament was incredible, though—the whole thing. Maybe they could even set up a pool inside an arena to host some aquatic sports championships... you could do a setup at an arena similar to what they did at the YMCA, or maybe just stick to water polo in Seattle or San Diego... there are so many possibilities if people would just stop dragging their feet and actually make a move.

Honestly, there's just way too much stuff being organized here, especially considering how bad the economy is right now.

They actually tried to host the Water Polo Continental Championship at Madison Square Garden, but everything just turned into a total mess because of some bureaucratic nonsense.

I’m seriously gutted about the Futsal World Cup. After that killer performance at the Continental Championship, we really should have gone for the World Cup, but I guess our leaders are just too clueless to pull it off.

Besides, hosting a Futsal Continental Championship or a World Cup doesn't even cost much—CONCACAF and FIFA cover basically everything, provided you've got the right venues ready to go.

We didn't even walk away with any trophies, and honestly? We were too damn stubborn to even help out with the organizing committee for the other guys.
